Fresh from the winter camping press in the Netherlands is WinterWoods, in the woods of Elp in Drenthe. That's nice, because Winterwoods is a pop-up campsite run by the folks from Travelbase, and they know exactly how to do that, Better Camping. During the day there are numerous activities (exploring the area and such), but you can also just warm up in the sauna. And cook your own meal over the campfire of course. A drink at the communal campfire, also nice, or stoke the wood stove in your own traditional yurt. Be quick because camping at Winterwoods is only possible from October 18, 2024 to March 23, 2025 and there are already waiting lists for a number of dates. Just saying.

Outdoor hotel Terra Wolde, near Zeewolde (only, but then also very easy to reach with your (share) car) is a favorite. All year round indeed. Because whoever thinks that an 'outdoor hotel' is only attractive in the summer months is wrong! Eating, sleeping and going along with the rhythm of nature is certainly also possible in the winter if it is up to Terra Wolde. And, as they say themselves: "We love nature and outdoor but of course it doesn't have to be spartan”. Hear hear. Nice and warm in your (shared) car to Zeewolde, nice and warm, stoking a pot over the campfire!

Okay, okay, Yugen Forest, we can imagine that… But where do you say?! Roggebotstaete, or: Landgoed Roggebotstaete. In Flevoland. Again, a place where you can only come with your (shared) car. In the middle of nature, and nature is therefore paramount when you go to Yugen Forest in Roggebotstaete (and then it is a good thing that you are with your (shared) car, because that is not only a very easy option, but also a very sustainable one. Here read more). Back to Yūgen Forest. That is a 'regenerative country estate' on the new land in Flevoland. You (and/or your company, or a club of like-minded people) can organize a retreat there yourself, which happens regularly. Check their instagram for the next event.

Not a hut on the heath, but a hut in the mountains. The chalets of huttopia are ideal for winter sports enthusiasts who don't feel like après-skiing. Secluded enough to cocoon and not experience any party noise, and yet before you know it you'll be back on the slopes. Best of both worlds. There are chalets at ski areas such as Les Arcs and Les 3 Vallées. Although Huttopia is a chain – and everyone is not always charming and small-scale – the chalets are very cozy and cosy.

For a piece of Scandinavia in the Achterhoek (to be honest: in the Achterhoek we have often had to wait for the bus and we would rather not do that with camping gear: Achterhoek equals: (shared) car, as far as we are concerned) you should Oetdoor being. Here you will spend the night in a Scandinavian bell tent, Swedish cottage or a forest house. Real those hards may also bring their own tent (because it fits so well in that (shared) car: there are also large (shared) cars for rent: with most apps you can choose in advance which car is suitable for your upcoming trip). In the winter, the terrain is converted into a Wintercamp with hot tub and sauna. They also have a living room with a wood stove, so there is no need to worry about getting cold here.

(Bartje) Heart Green. A lovely campsite hidden between the trees in the Maashorst nature reserve in Brabant. And where Hartje Groen is a true campsite, with catering from the winter fireplace books, it is mainly Holenberg, right next to Hartje Groen (they share the reception) where you want to come home to one of the cabins (they are rather clever little houses, but you have to call them something). These cabins are called Anna and they are truly insane: you sleep under the open sky (okay, with a bit of glass in between) and they slide open completely. Now you'd rather keep them closed in the winter, but it does show that they are ingeniously built. Also ingenious: the hidden bath. Seek and you will find.

There is a campsite and aparthotel in Zillertall, Austria Natürlich HELL. Hell as in clear, for clarity. With a sauna, (kid proof) swimming pool, fitness it is anything but hellish here. Sustainability is of paramount importance, just like design. That's how we like to see it. You can sleep in an apartment or at the campsite. The sanitary building was completely renovated in 2022, so you don't have to worry about dirty camping showers. With both the highway and public transport nearby, Natürlich HELL is the perfect base for exploring the Zillertall.

Don't judge a book by its cover. The website is not exactly typical, but we are happy to look through it. Camping Sörälvens Fiske in Swedish Idre is a real one hidden gems. The campsite is located right on a river and with a bit of luck reindeer walk across the site. You can sleep in your own caravan or tent or in a Stuga. Hygge at the top.

Wylde (and hopefully white) Christmas, anyone? Bee the Wylde Path In Friesland that will be fine. Certainly not back to basics, but ultimate enjoyment. Het Wylde Pad is a small-scale holiday park with yurts, apartments and cottages. All styled by Rachel van de Huismuts, so the interior is also more than good. There is plenty to do on the park itself, and the surroundings are also great. Het Wylde Pad is really in the middle of nowhere and you can't really get there by public transport... But you can park your (shared) car right in front of the door! Also great for a Saturday afternoon.

You will find Heythuysen in Limburg Boutique Yurt Puck. This is a real winter specimen, because you can only visit it from October to March. Puck is handsome, cozy and sociable. The bubbles will be ready upon arrival so the party can start straight away. You will sleep like a baby.
