Quickly: 24 hours in Turin

We'll probably never get enough of it Italy. The versatile cuisine, the delicious wines, the eccentric, colorful fashion, the exuberant people, the distinctive culture... What's not to love? Hence 24 hours in Turin!

And so it was time again for a trip to the northern Italian city Turin. The (maybe even nicer... Am I really saying this? Yes, I'm really saying it) sister of Milan. When you think of Turin, you only think of the Olympics from a few years ago? Understandable. We had too. With a little preliminary research it immediately became clear what a great (and big) city this is. At the foot of the beautiful Alps, wonderful shopping streets and only an hour and a half flight from Schiphol Airport. Look, we'd like to hear that. Exactly the kind of city for a quick city trip, which is certainly suitable for a longer stay. Something for everyone.

So it becomes Turin named as the foodie city of Italy (although the pizza originally comes from Naples of course, and Milan is known for its pasta...). They are the proud owners of the first Eataly once (there are now dozens of cases worldwide, including a number in New York). A food hall, wholesaler, fresh market, wine shop and bookstore in one, where you can also eat at various restaurants.

Join us Bread & Wine and be surprised during lunch by the delicious Italian dishes with a glass of wine, of course, and with an espresso as a farewell (such a true Italian one-sip and you'll be bouncing). Now you have to decide for yourself whether it is better to make the tour through the Eataly before lunch or afterwards (you know, because of that wine).

Driving in Turin is of course done with one Fiat, as he was born and raised here. Because in addition to the delicious food, drinks and shopping, it is highly recommended to take a trip through the city and through the mountains just outside the city. From the Basilica di Superga, a beautiful basilica that is definitely worth a visit, you have an amazing view of the city and the Alps. Slightly lower, on the Monte dei Cappuccino (a mountain), there is a typical Italian church, one where you just have to peek inside (category The Godfather, yum). And where, when you walk outside again, you can enjoy the view over Turin.

Barts Boekje - Turin light festival

Why you have to go now? Now now now? Because now, at this time of year, there is something extra that makes the city even more fun and that is light festival from Turin, Luci d'Artista. Between November 4, 2017 and January 7, 2018 you walk a route through the city - swooning over illuminated works of art, just like it amsterdam light festival but then, holla, in Italy. Tip from us: a good trick to get to know the city. No trucks if you can't manage it before January 7, because you can enjoy this festival every year. So just plan ahead for 2018/'19.

We add food in the evening House of Barolo (of the wine). And let's talk about that vitello tonato. Nine times out of ten when I order it I am disappointed afterwards. But this one. This... Happiness in a bite. That the Italians have style is proven once again in this restaurant. The antiquity of the building combined with modern chairs, beautifully laid tables, bottles of wine against the wall. If you look around you, the stylistically responsible Italians are flying around your ears. And then you know, I'm in a good place.
