Staycation in Amsterdam: where can you sleep, eat and do they still have room?
For most of us, the summer of 2020 will look different than other years. Don't hop on a plane to far away. But discover what our own country has to offer. And that's a lot, you read here, here en here. If you want to go for a staycation in Amsterdam, there are plenty of creative ideas from the hotels that have to catch up. Where are we going to sleep, where are we going to eat and especially where is there room? With these combinations your holiday will be special this year.
This summer, the citizenM hotel group has put together special staycation packages with Amsterdam entrepreneurs. Sleeping for two including something cozy. Furthermore, there is of course plenty of time to do your own thing. For example, citizenM has one collab with Pure Boats. A Barts Famous. Completely c-proof, you get a private two-hour cruise through the most beautiful canals in our country. Add a bottle of bubbles. And afterwards you can stroll along the Amstel for a while and then collapse into bed at citizenM. If that doesn't sound romantic... They do the same trick with the new culinary no pizzeria pizza restaurant No Rules (led by Michelin star chef Jacob Jan Boerma). Ditto at Vonderpark3, the restaurant in the beautiful former Vondelpark pavilion. And at Strand Zuid, where in addition to a three-course summer menu you will also receive two sun beds as a gift. Sometimes those pearls come along, which immediately makes us overjoyed and super enthusiastic. That often involves a location, a rough sketch and the tone of voice of a place. Because there is no shortage of enthusiasm when we talk about it Hotel Westervilla .
Where to start? Let's do the location. That's one of those that you didn't (or didn't really) know was there, and yet... If you think back for a moment, you probably twisted your neck at some point when you cycled past Vredenhof cemetery on the way to Buurtboerderij Ons Pleasure, for example. The stately, majestic white villa, hidden on the edge of the Westerpark, has been our dream home for years. In the middle of greenery, peace and space and nature around you, and within 2 minutes you are in the Westerpark, in less than 10 minutes by bike in the heart of the Jordaan. We also know that it is completely inaccessible. But thanks to the arrival of restaurant and boutique hotel WesterVilla, our dream seems to be coming true, even if only for a (few) night(s). We have found a pot of gold. Not at the end of the rainbow, though in the midst or Amsterdam, on the Nieuwezijdse Voorburgwal. A modern boutique hotel that impresses with its looks and - after all - from the moment the doors open the inside that counts – character. INK Hotel is the name. 'INK' indeed: the place owes that name to the fact that it was once the home of the Dutch newspaper De Tijd. If you close your eyes, you can still smell the ink and hear the presses turning, the hotel breathes so much history. Add to that the stylish details, unprecedented service and ideal location and you understand why INK Hotel Amsterdam deserves the stamp of 'new classic'.
The tasteful rooms are of the “just arrange a late check-out” caliber: handsome boy who manages to leave the gigantic bed early (one with those super-fresh sheets that hotels have a patent on). And in some rooms there is even a picture of a bathtub. The gold details provide a warm contrast with the blue and marble. #NeverGoHome, which is an option for a while if you have a staycation package at the hotel.
If we had a tail, it would wag a little when we came across an address where everything that Barts Boekje Barts Boekje makes is available: some multi-culti, some travel, something beautiful for the home and an inspiring place to eat or stay. . Copy paste and wag wag to Amsterdam bed and breakfast + rug shop The Weavery where, except for the food, all the boxes are ticked.
Admittedly, we lost sight of him for a very, very moment, but that is simply our loss, nothing more and nothing less. Because the Bed & Breakfast in Amsterdam within walking distance of Central Station is and remains a special, and one of our favorite Amsterdam pearls. Not least because of Stefan & Steven, the owners of Stout & Co. Sounds like a roguish duo (and maybe it is?), men with taste. Of which: the two have their own design studios for interior architecture and landscape architecture on the ground floor of the building that also houses Stout & Co (hello inspiration for the home!) and the B&B is surrounded by greenery and design. And that, we repeat, within walking distance of Amsterdam CS.
How is that possible? De Hoogte Kadijk is the answer, on the spot where a brewery used to stand, on the water, diagonally opposite the monkeys and elephants of Artis. The perfect place for anyone who wants to go on a city trip but also needs peace and space.
The self-designed – told you so: men with taste – Bed & Breakfast is located on the first floor of the building. The luxurious suites are spacious (35 M2), have wonderful beds and – alleluia – Aesop products. And they all have their own entrance on the roof terrace; a real Urban jungle. Now that is freedom in the city. Speaking of which: each suite has its own kitchenette so you can make your own breakfast (for on that roof terrace?), but let the men spoil you with an extensive breakfast full of local products, freshly baked bread and a delicious cappuccino or latte, then you can do that too! In short: the feeling of a luxury hotel suite with the small scale and personality of a Bed & Breakfast. Win-win.
Would you rather be more remote? In addition to all RIVM measures, there is also the option for a contact-free stay. And even then the men try to make your stay as hospitable as possible with many insider recommendations to discover the city as best as possible.
Good old Lloyd Hotel in Amsterdam is an icon on the IJ. A building that radiates so much history and class and is at the same time a home for hipsters, neighbors and business people. Lloyd Hotel has that uncomplicated laissez-faire and is hip without being too eager. Impossible not to like.
