Amangiri literally means “Peaceful mountain” and oh yeah peaceful it is. And those mountains? They are literally ALL OVER. The hotel is located in an almost secret location and only after a long drive between the menacing rock formations do you spot the hotel in the distance. A mirage in the shape of a rectangular pavilion made of polished concrete. It seems to completely merge with the desert landscape. Trust us: this hotel is impressive. The Amangiri hotel is not just any hotel but an enclave of comfort and style. In the large, open, extremely stylish lounge areas throughout the hotel there are windows without glass that give the impression that the landscape is a painting. In the library you can look for the ultimate reading material for by the pool, which (yes) is built around an immense rock. The hotel has a fitness room and a sublime wellness and the restaurant will exceed all your expectations. The rooms are (of course) extremely luxuriously furnished. Even in the ballroom of a bathroom you look out over the desert violence. It is a bizarre sensation when you enjoy the widescreen view from your king-size bed - which is in the middle of the room - in the morning. The large folding window can be opened completely and opens onto a private terrace with an outdoor fireplace (among other things for roasting your marshmallows). Life does not get more perfect than during these intensely black nights with starry skies in Southern Utah. Having said all that, you will of course understand: don't forget your piggy bank. But oh boy, is it worth it!

The better unplugging starts with one or two nights in the beautiful Stone Desert glamping of Scarabeo Camp. After arriving at Marrakech airport, drive into the Agafay's Stone Desert for about 45 minutes until a white tent camp appears out of nowhere. No mirage, but a place to stay that looks a lot like a film set: so chic and timeless that you expect to see a young Ingrid Bergman dressed in white at any moment. Serene Scandinavian class in the mix with the traditional Morocco of the traveling Berbers and the ancient Africa of David Livingstone. Neutral colors complemented by Beni Ouarain rugs, Moroccan accessories and vintage finds with worldly references such as atlases, globes, binoculars and travel-sized board games. It goes with Scarabeo camp for the Great Relaxation: book and settle into one of the many comfortable seating areas with the vast nothingness of the desert around you, and with nothing but slowly flapping tent canvas in the background. Until it's time to make your way through a candlelit path to the fairytale restaurant tent. There the tables are full of small Moroccan dishes: falafel, roasted cauliflower, sweet pumpkin puree, stewed fennel and pear, turkey skewers and more, everything equally attractive, everything equally delicious. A game of pétanque by the campfire under the starry sky - nowhere as impressive as in the desert - rounds off the evening. You can stay at the Stone Desert Camp of Camp Scarabeo from mid-September to mid-June, after which it becomes too hot. Although owner Vincent has also found a solution: since the summer of 2016 he has been running a second location on the Atlantic Ocean between Agadir and Essaouira, the Coast Camp, where you can go during the summer months.
