5 x the best of (Taste of) Amsterdam

Taste of Amsterdam took over the Amstelpark in Amsterdam for four days last weekend for a heavenly foodie festival. And of course Bart's Booklet present! If you are unfamiliar with the concept: Taste of Amsterdam is the annual event where restaurants from Amsterdam and the surrounding area offer you theirs signature dishes let it taste. Why write about an event that has already happened? Simple: because the restaurants that can still be visited. The dishes we tasted put these restaurants on the menu, uh, or on the menu, uh, or on the hot list. Our hot list! We think the following five, in no particular order, were the craziest.

Barts-Boekje-Persijn 1Persijn Dutch Eatery
Heard it before? Of course! We already wrote a piece about the people who are putting Dutch food back on the menu, or on the map. Cool concept, where fresh products from our own greenhouse play the leading role. Their signature dish? The Dutch Caprese. Beautiful picture, nice taste, original and actually not that complicated at all. Tomato stuffed with mozzarella and basil, in a bath of very good olive oil. A classic Italian dish with a very original (soft) twist. Persijn Dutch Eatery will open its doors in the fall of 2017. So please be patient. Read more: Persijn

Barts-Boekje-t amsterdammertje'T Amsterdammertje
The Chicken & Krab dish literally made our arms go up in the air with delight. And Chicken & Krab is now a household name because last year it won Taste the World, as the best dish of all Taste Festivals. Farm chicken rouleau with smoked tea, ring crab salad and mango chutney is what it is. Where should you go? Although its name suggests otherwise, star restaurant 't Amsterdammertje is located in the picturesque Loenen aan de Vecht and is housed in an old farm. Rijksstraatweg 119, Loenen aan de Vecht

Barts-Boekje-taste of AmsterdamThe Libre
Jonnie Boer's Librije is known for its local dishes with refined techniques and very unique ideas. And quirky, we like that! During the 'multisensory cooking experience', Jonnie Boer showed that star cooking with the right equipment and ingredients can also be done by hobby chefs. We tasted a number of dishes with surprising flavors that left us wanting more. More! Such as the langoustine (Norwegian lobster) in kombucha. Kom-watte? Kombucha: a tea fungus with beneficial effects. Star restaurant De Librije can be found in Zwolle, and Librije's Zusje can be found on the Herengracht in Amsterdam.

Ron Gastrobar Indonesia
Indonesian cuisine: you hate or you love love love it. In any case, Ron Blaauw's Indonesian Gastrobar gets an extra big heart from us. If you have Indonesian roots, you are guaranteed to imagine yourself at grandmother's kitchen table again. Authentic Indonesian flavors in surprising, innovative dishes. Our favorite? Taco ayam Bali! Creamy Balinese chicken, sweet and sour cucumber and kentjoer mayonnaise with a crispy shell, or the taco. At Ron Gastrobar Indonesia in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel you can enjoy various small street food-inspired dishes, but BBQ satay and the complete Indian rice table are also on the menu.

Just opened: Bistrobar Indonesia in Haarlem. Read more: Bistro bar Indonesia

Barts Booklet - OkuraHotel Okura Amsterdam
It seems that the street food concept is finally getting the credit it deserves, because top chefs are now constantly inspiring their dishes with the cheapest, but often also the tastiest and authentic way of eating in Asia. Inspired by street food from Tokyo, the two non-Japanese restaurants of Hotel Okura Amsterdam, Serre and Ciel Bleu, presented some very nice small bites with a Japanese twist. The Salmon Miso for example. Simple but successful. Perfectly cooked sweet salmon on a bed of soba noodles, finished with ginger and spring onion. Don't do anything about it anymore. The star restaurants, with or without spectacular views, can be found on Ferdinand Bolstraat in Amsterdam. But of course you already knew that.
