5 times hidden and hidden in The Hague
Oh yes, that beautiful city behind the dunes, it's a nice place to be beautiful restaurants and coffee shops Re. But are these 5
hidden and hidden places The Hague have you ever noticed?
The name already gives it away, this place really takes the cake for being hidden and hidden
in The Hague. You will find it in the middle - but really in the middle of the city - behind the busy Spuistraat 't Achterommetje, where they sell the most delicious sandwiches. Not much fuss, but conviviality and classic good cake on the menu. Carrot cake and apple pie galore. Or build your own sandwich with grilled chicken or Parma ham and wasabi mayo. Weird combo? We just name a few, at 't Achterommetje they can do it better. Such as the Sandwich of the Century with thinly sliced steak, truffle mayonnaise and parmesan cheese. Or a focaccia with smoked salmon. Perfect place for when you are in the middle of a shopping spree, but still need to recharge and want to sit quietly. Enjoy!
A little less in the center – ahem – in the Binckhorst of The Hague, is hidden far away at the Fokkerhaven: Glass. And glassware is going to be necessary here, because here it is time for wine by the water. Opposite Capriole (do we remember it? Just as hidden as Glaswerk, that other gem of the Binckhorst) you can sip a delicious wine here including a serious drinks menu (chorizo from the BBQ, anyone?), or you are welcome for lunch or dinner. Dishes to share such as steak tartare, burrata with passion fruit, monkfish, smoked salmon or a tasty rendang, and the menu changes with the seasons. Ok, it's a bit further out of town, but...
definitely worth a bike ride, or with plenty of room to park your car.
You will find it hidden in the Oude Molstraat (a sneaky, hidden street anyway). Lap song. To the written about more often, but it remains a favorite. For lunch, for cake and for a nightcap. Recommended for a high tea, so that you can taste all the delicious teas from Betjeman & Barton, but once you have found your favorite tea, you can of course also sit here with a sandwich. They are just a little bit different than normal. Original combinations, served on a cutting board. And all day breakfast available, for example with the Elvis Waffles (he apparently ate his waffles with peanut butter, banana and bacon, we agree). In the evening the building changes hands and is transformed into a wine bar (also great espresso martinis by the way) with numerous Mediterranean snacks. Don't worry, you can just stay put.
More from the center towards the Peace Palace, past Anna Paulownaplein (also nice
terraces there by the way!) do you think Café Blossom. A bright, cheerful, cozy place with fresh pastries and perfect espresso. All day breakfast with a large breakfast platter or açai with fresh fruit, but also sandwiches (crostini with mozzarella, grilled peach and mint pesto!) or a Japanese bowl with miso-glazed salmon. In the summer you can sit in the hidden garden. Top place after a visit to the Peace Palace or Museum Mesdag. Or else on the weekend
enjoy a delicious brunch or picnic with a carefully selected crate full of goodies
Café Blossom.
Hmm ... Bookstor may not seem so hidden, so “normal” at first
Noordeinde. But if you walk past here, you probably won't notice the cute conservatory. Bookstor just seems like a – yes – bookstore. Good to know So you can order a nice cup of coffee inside, including a thick slice of banana bread or pear cake. Nice place to get some work done behind your laptop, or have a nice chat with a game of chess between the books. Because yes, in addition to coffee, Bookstor has also remained a bookstore. Now, instead of looking for tax law or other legal writings (as in the 80s), you only look for a beautiful fiction story or old classic. Wonderfully romantic atmosphere inside, including a Beauty and the Beast-worthy mobile staircase reaching to the highest bookshelves.
Well, there were 5 already, but the Hofstad has many more beautiful (and tasty) things to offer and secretly hidden gems. How about, for example ñ? Hidden behind the Torenstraat with delicious tapas? Keep an eye on us for more beautiful things from the most beautiful city behind the dunes…
