Fairytale dining at M Bacha in Marrakesh
There are numerous lists of famous restaurants and Riads in Marrakech, especially in the old town of Medina. A place where we ended up by chance after doing some Google Maps/what's nearby research M Bacha ('the chosen place'), an authentic restaurant with a lot of history. Here you can eat a culinary mix of Moroccan and Asian cuisine in the most fairytale courtyard in the city! Disney movies you don't have to look anymore, because this pearl brings out Princess Jasmine in you. Besaha.
The name M Bacha of the place comes from Bacha Driss Menou, son of the commander-in-chief of the Moroccan army. M Bacha's origins date back to 1896, when it was built as a showcase of Islamic art. And art, it certainly is!
When we think of Morocco, we think of couscous. When we think of Morocco, we think of tagine. We ordered couscous, with chicken to be precise, and a real Moroccan tagine. That is very different from what we try to achieve in the Netherlands. Of course you have to taste everything, so share your dishes so you can try everything. While you order another bowl of Moroccan sweets, the sun sets between the orange-colored orange trees.
M Bacha is originally a Riad, a traditional Moroccan palace of a wealthy family. Built in 1896, this Riad is a historical monument of Islamic art, reflecting the political decisions that shaped the history of Marrakech and Morocco during the colonial period. So this is not just a restaurant full of splendor, but a place with a story and history.
