The daily fruit snack is fine, but it will be a lot more fun if your UK gets a self-picked apple to school. And for that you have to go to the Fruittuin van West, a picking garden in Geuzenveld-Slotermeer. Maybe not right around the corner, but the bike ride via Westerpark and De Bretten is worth it. Once on location you will find bushes full of berries, raspberries and strawberries and trees with fresh apples and sweet pears. At the entrance you will receive a basket full of containers to fill and an egg carton. There are also chickens hopping around in the orchard and you can collect the eggs yourself. There is a spacious café in the middle of the site where you can - of course - order fresh apple juice and homemade fruit pie. All of course very organic, sustainable and eco, but secretly (also) just delicious. Check the website in advance to find out what the harvest is that day. Fruit garden of West
