Food and beverage options at Schiphol: these are the best options
We've said it before, and we'll say it again here: Schiphol is no longer just a place you whiz through on your way to your next destination. Not at all. In fact, 'we at Barts Boekje' don't book any of the other Dutch airports simply because we don't want to miss our Schiphol outing: the party has already started before the holiday. Thanks to the shops, the Maarten Baas clocks (plural, yes; besides the famous tall clock in lounge 1, there is now also The People's Clock in lounge 2), and the increasingly fun and better catering at the airport. That deserved a list, duly noted: Food and beverage options at Schiphol: these are the best options:
Zero Zero has to be, without a doubt, one of the most beloved sandwich shops – correction: sandwich concepts – in Amsterdam: Italian bread, generously filled, and oh so so so good. And the mini-chain (there are three locations in Amsterdam itself) has now opened its first location at Schiphol. In other words: a little bit of Florence on your way to your next destination.
Zero Zero? No idea? Here’s the thing: the place sells freshly baked schiacciata daily (quite pricey, but invariably plump, so sharing a sandwich is often perfectly fine): light, crispy Tuscan bread generously topped with distinctly Italian ingredients. And yes, it really is very good. And now at Schiphol too. 10/10.

The equally Amsterdam-based chain STACH has no fewer than four locations at the airport: one before security, at Schiphol Plaza, and three after. The latter are located in Lounge 4 (towards gate M), on Holland Boulevard (towards gates D1-D57, E, F, G, and H), and on Pier D. The selection is similar at all locations. Oh! And during busy periods, there is a pink STACH coffee cart by the baggage claim – very smart, very welcome. You can buy cold-pressed juices and coffee to go, sandwiches (we love the meatball sandwich, and besides, your STACH spending won't break the bank for once), salads, sweets, and complete meals, with vegetarian and vegan options and seasonal products from local suppliers. Most items are packaged and ready to take away immediately, which is convenient if you are short on time between security and boarding. The location before security is at Schiphol Boulevard 329.
Eataly opened a branch at Schiphol in July 2025: the Italian chain's first in the Netherlands, and simultaneously the first at a Northern European airport. You will find the shop in Lounge 1, the Schengen area where you end up after the security check if you are flying within Europe. The space covers approximately 200 square meters and accommodates around seventy guests. The heart of the establishment is a counter featuring pizza alla pala, filled croissants, and Italian pastries; additionally, there is a refrigerated display with salads, desserts, and juices to take away, plus a separate coffee bar. The menu also includes aperitivo, with wines and spritz. The location was established in collaboration with travel retailer Avolta. The opening is part of the renovation of Lounge 1, which grew from 19.000 to 24.000 square meters and gained no fewer than 23 (!) new hospitality and retail concepts.
- The Butcher – the burger concept by The Entourage Group. It started in late 2025 as a pop-up in the food court between Lounges 2 and 3; at the Schiphol site, the establishment is now located on the F-pier, open daily from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. In addition to burgers, the menu features schnitzels, steaks, salads, and milkshakes, plus breakfast. Check the location shortly before publication, as it has recently shifted.
- Café Flor (D-pier, breakfast and poké), Café Comunal (C-pier), Dammer's Tap (B-pier, beer and Amsterdam snacks) and silverscreen (E-pier, American, interior in New York 1920s and 1930s style).
- Murphy's Irish Pub It is located on Pier D, on the route to gates D1-D57. That is the Schengen section of the pier, so you only pass by if you are flying within Europe – if you are departing for Dublin, for example, you are on the other side of the divide. The pub sticks to its familiar format: Murphy's stout on tap and hearty pub classics, all day long, in a traditionally decorated space. The menu includes an extensive Irish breakfast, nachos, and burgers, alongside beer, wine, and cocktails. Breakfast is one of the few hot options on this part of the pier early in the morning, and you can get in from as early as 6 am.
The Wanderer opened in Lounge 1 in October 2025 and seats approximately 240 people. You walk past it on your way to gates B, C, and D59-D87. The establishment is designed as the living room of a fictional character – a traveler displaying his finds from his travels – and this is reflected in the interior: an Art Deco chandelier, a gleaming cocktail bar, and display cases full of souvenirs. The concept was developed with travel retailer Avolta and the Dutch Cocktail Club. The menu features cocktails and street food dishes from various countries throughout the day. There are also DJ performances, a photo booth, and a vending machine with non-alcoholic cocktails to take away. During the day, it functions primarily as a place to have lunch or work; in the evening, the emphasis is on the bar. Open daily from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
Grand Café and Deli under one name, Salon, with over 300 seats. A no-nonsense bistro, making it a very pleasant place to settle down for a moment, beneath the Clock in Lounge 1. The design references Amsterdam canal houses and terraces. At the Deli, you'll find sandwiches with beef sausage or Gouda cheese, quiches, and snacks, while at the Grand Café bar—where the round seating is the most enjoyable place to sit—local beers and drinks are available. Salon took the place of Grand Café 't Paleis and the Mediterranean Sandwich Bar; the view of the platforms remained.
- LOAF – French bakery, opening in June 2025, nearly 200 seats, with fresh deliveries day and night. Located where Café Chocolat and Seafood & Bubbles used to be.
- Two Tigers – Asian, with sushi made right in front of you, homemade noodles and snacks; also to go.
- La Place, LEON, The Upper Floor Bar en Starbucks
Admittedly, opinions are divided, but we loooveee Kebaya, the pan-Asian brasserie that has been in the same spot in Lounge 2 since 2017. The place was once the largest at the airport, and the sushi, noodles, and edamame are simply good. The menu features 24 main courses from Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, and China, among others, prepared in an open kitchen. The restaurant is located on Holland Boulevard, and there is also a takeaway option in Lounge 2.
Bubbles is located in Lounge 2, the departure point for international flights, on the route to gates D1-D57, E, F, G, and H. More precisely: between Lounge 2 and Holland Boulevard, at the E-pier. The establishment was previously located in Lounge 1 and moved to this spot in September 2023. The interior was designed by Paul Linse, featuring wood, marble, and warm lighting; there is seating for approximately seventy guests. The menu revolves around champagne, oysters, caviar, and barista coffee, complemented by items such as lobster roll. Admittedly, it is in the more expensive segment of airport offerings, but we invariably rush there for the best start to our holiday (and they have a delicious Chablis by the glass). Add an oyster, and you almost forget you still have a flight to catch.
