Hotels (worldwide) we love to visit solo

Save up your vacation days and go. Unwind in a place you can experience at your own pace. That doesn't mean you have to meditate or do yoga (of course, you're welcome to), but simply enjoying a good glass of wine or a relaxing spa by yourself is just as enjoyable. Some hotels understand this a little better than others. It's just how it is. These are the places around the world we most enjoy traveling solo.

Lchang Nang Retreat in Nubra Valley, India

Lchang Nang Retreat in Nubra Valley, India

This place is immediately one where you'll be searching for a deeper connection (for those who just want to chill: find the design hotels below). Surrounded by the Himalayas, this retreat promises complete relaxation. Okay, we're sold. The eco-friendly House of Trees has seventeen cottages, each with its own private garden. There are various programs to choose from, including wellness programs with yoga and meditation sessions led by experienced instructors. Beginners and experienced guests are equally welcome.

And just as tempting: the food. Traditional Tibetan and Ladakhi dishes, prepared with fresh, organic ingredients. You can make it as elaborate as you like: from dining on sand dunes and chef-led tastings to BBQs under the stars and everything in between. You see, you're not the only one traveling solo.

Goatfell, Kandapola Sri Lanka

Goatfell, Kandapola Sri Lanka

Of course, sharing beautiful moments with others is wonderful, but Goatfell in Sri Lanka might just be the greatest gift you can give yourself. Your bungalow is beautifully situated among flowers and ancient pine trees, and the drive there is an adventure in itself. From the east coast, the flat, dry landscape of palm trees slowly transforms into jungle and forest, reaching the mountains with rice paddies, vegetable fields, and tea plantations.

Goatfell also makes solo hiking a lot easier: it's situated high up in one of the country's highest tea plantations, with hiking trails leading in every direction. Just beyond the infinity pool lies the village of Goatfell—yes, named after Goat Fell, the highest mountain on Scotland's Isle of Arran.

Once the home of tea merchants, now a stylish bungalow. The food is a feast in itself, with fragrant herbs and fresh vegetables, as well as classics like rhubarb, straight from the hotel garden. Be sure to check out the locally sourced steak with homegrown vegetables – it's truly delicious.

The Beach Tulum, Mexico

The Beach Tulum, Mexico

If there's one place where they really capitalize on the concept of solo travel, it's Mexico. The Beach TulumSmall, intimate, and adults-only, it's a place where you can unwind, yet still be close to all the action of Tulum. Despite the lively neighborhood, it feels quiet, relaxed, and exclusive. Everything is within walking distance: hotels, restaurants, shops, and clubs. In the evening, the unlit, narrow roads can make it safe to take a taxi, but once you're in the well-lit streets, you can stroll peacefully. The hotel is completely plastic-free, which is good for the nearby ocean and sea turtles.

The solo package includes private transportation to and from Tulum or Cancun International Airport, a yoga or meditation session to completely reset your mind, a cooking class, and a visit to a cacao shop in Downtown Tulum, complete with a private driver. Also included is a chef-curated tasting menu for one at Ziggy's Restaurant, a trip to a private cenote with an expert guide, a personalized Naj Nay massage at the spa, and helpful tips for exploring the area safely and easily.

Ayurveda Parkschlösschen, Germany

Ayurveda Parkschlösschen, Germany

Ayurveda is an ancient holistic healing method from India that focuses on balance between body, mind, and environment. And that is precisely what it's all about Ayurveda Parkschlösschen. Many of the guests, who return surprisingly often (a good sign), experience a panchakarma, an ancient treatment that removes toxins, strengthens digestion, and restores the flow of life energy. Such a treatment lasts at least nine days, but you can extend your stay as much as you like.

In the tranquil setting of the Mosel River, in the German region of Rhineland-Palatinate (about a three- to four-hour drive from the Netherlands), several stately historic buildings loom, surrounded by a park-like garden. The interior seamlessly reflects Ayurvedic philosophy: soft earth tones, rounded shapes, and abundant natural light that invite tranquility. No excess, no unnecessary stimuli. The rooms are simply yet warmly decorated, with plenty of wood and natural materials. Everything exudes tranquility and is designed to restore balance to body and mind. And the best part: everyone is alone there.

Eremito Hotel, Italy

Eremito Hotel, Italy

From luxury to silence, because Hermit is a silent retreat for solo travelers. And yes, you don't have to go to Nepal for that! Hooray! The old stone building is a carefully restored monastery. About 70% of the guests travel alone. No Wi-Fi, no TV, no mini-fridge—the digital world fades away, making room for reflection, silence, and true connections with yourself. It's the little things that make it beautiful: candlelight everywhere, monastic rooms of just nine square meters with handmade ceramics, and dinners that feel more like a ceremony.

From morning yoga and meditation to forest walks, everything is designed to help you slow down. At dinner, no one speaks; here you eat as if in a ritual, with candlelight and music, feeling completely present. The lounge and spa offer space for reading, sipping tea, or taking a dip in the plunge pool. You'll definitely want to experience it someday.

Saltmoore Whitby, England

Saltmoore Whitby, England

After a thorough renovation of the former Raithwaite Estate on Sandsend Road in Whitby, North Yorkshire, the new Hotel Saltmoore has opened. And we're hooked: the renovation cost (we understand) a mere £10 million, but it's worth it: a beautiful wellness-focused retreat nestled between the North Sea and the Yorkshire Moors. Ideal for solo travelers.

The hotel is located on Sandsend Road (YO21 3ST), nestled between the wild heathlands and the sea. Sandsend Beach is right on the hotel's doorstep, while Whitby town center is a short drive away. Dive into the salty sea at Sandsend Beach, put on your hiking boots for a stroll through breathtaking North Yorkshire, explore Whitby's pubs, or simply never leave your hotel room – those are the flavors. And they're all equally delicious.
