Sleeping in prison. Well, technically next door. The impressive grounds of the former Koepelgevangenis have been completely converted into a cultural and work centre. Where the prisoners used to come in, there used to be a restaurant called Menu Corridor for a while. And now there is also a hotel called Metzlr House. The reception area and such are still under construction, but you can sleep there. Welcome to Haarlem and you can sleep at Metzlr House.
Are you looking for a nice place in the center of Haarlem? children's playground with good coffee for the parents? Then cycle to Sprout. This new kids cafe has multiple play areas inside and a large terrace with a sand kitchen. Hours of fun for the kids and time to relax or catch up for the parents. Big bonus points for the affordable menu for kids where everything is under €5.

A corner of Haarlem that could really use a dose of coziness is the Hortusplein. That's what friends Tom, Maarten, and Tom thought too, who opened trattoria and deli Mercato Tomato here this summer. Also known as the one stop shop For lovers of fresh Italian food. You walk in in the morning for your first espresso and later in the day grab a delicious freshly baked focaccia to go. Don't feel like cooking yourself in the evening? That's arranged too: fresh sauces, pastas, and complete meals simply go home with you. Be sure to top it off with the tiramisu, very good!
De boys do it again! After the cozy coffee bar in the Smedestraat and the larger coffee bar in the Kleine Houtstraat, it is time to Coffee Habits number 3 to open. Just like the other times, the coffee bar is already open while they are still renovating. The bar is standing and that means that the coffee machine is being placed and put to work. If you come to get coffee, you will immediately see how beautiful this coffee bar is Gedempte Oude Gracht 44 is becoming. The entire building has been emptied and the historic atmosphere of the building is increasingly coming back. Number three is getting bigger, maybe even more beautiful and we can't wait for the opening.
Haarlem parents know children's shop Lieneloe – with brands like Mini Rodini, Circle of Trust and Blundstone – already easy to find. Now the spacious store has a beautiful garden with the cutest rabbits. And of course, that includes a kids café. Petit Café has a small menu with croissants, children's snacks from €0.50 and good sandwiches for the parents or to share. The kids can play inside and outside and the parents have a rest.
Lieneloe – Kruisstraat 25
Wellness fusion places are hot. And the first one is now also opening in Kleverpark. Homi is there for it coffee, holistic physio therapy and yogaThis shop with the colours of nature and the sea is a meeting place for different styles of yoga and healers. And that immediately makes the atmosphere very zen. If you fancy a relaxed cup of coffee, Homi is there for you.
Homi – Santpoorterstraat 31 Haarlem
For years Haarlem had a fabric walhalla with Jan Sikkens. He closed his doors (nationally) but another fabric shop opened: Folk + Fiber in the nicest street of Haarlem, the Schagchelstraat. Gina sells the most beautiful (natural) fabrics here and gives numerous workshops such as sewing lessons for beginners and Japanese Better techniques. Didn't you have a sewing project in mind yet? Come by, the inspiration will start flowing.
Fresh! This Spanish restobar has been open since May 1st at the Botermarkt. No siesta here, because they have started quietly with lunch, aperitivo and dinner. On your plate you get pequeño Besos, their own Besos, pinxtos, freshly made tortillas, paella and main courses from the charcoal oven. Is all this not enough? Then you can also get a place at the bar with the chef, where you sit with your nose on top of the pans full of paella. Oh, and we must not forget one thing: your nose is also wonderfully in the sun on the terrace. Well... when the sun shines. ¡Hasta pronto!
The newest addition to the Zandvoort beach is Beach Barn. This cozy beach bar is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Beach Barn has a stylish classic look. Lots of wood, white and natural tones. Special at Beach Barn is the own bakery which is open daily from 08.30:XNUMX. Here you can get delicious fresh croissants, cinnamon buns, cookies and more savory and sweet pastries. The menu also includes richly filled sandwiches, good salads and small and large dishes (to share). We had the shells and they were delicious!
Ok ok, secretly actually in Haarlem aan Zee, or Zandvoort, but definitely worth mentioning. Piatti is a beach bar that we would actually call a beach restaurant. If you want to eat well by the sea, then Piatti is the place to be. Whatever you do, order a pizza. It's delicious.
This new member of the Colette-Nolita-Corridor group is Rigatoni. At this pasta bar you can sit comfortably at a table, at the bar or on the terrace. The pastas are delicious and the atmosphere is cozy. For an elaborately planned dinner or a quick meal (because you don't feel like cooking) on a weekday; Rigatoni is your place.

De Koepel has been open for a while now after a spectacular renovation, but more fun things are still being built. The old cell complex serves as a tech hub, campus, workplace and a bit of culture. For meetings with world-improving start-ups and events, De Koepel is your place. In terms of culture, there is a cinema (great for the people of Haarlem) and a coffee bar deliCafé. Restaurant Menu Corridor has become one of the favorites in Haarlem and recently opened its renovated, super cozy terrace. And the hotel is also open now. Also note on the agenda because there are regular Makers Markets and vintage sales in De Koepel. And then you can immediately take a good look at the impressive building. The old cell doors are still there and the dome is gigantic.
Taru's looks are a picture. Bar Taru has been in a stunningly beautiful building in the Koningsstraat since 2020, but has changed its concept a few times. The menu since day 1 has included cocktails and highballs, and of course you can decide for yourself whether you want to keep it headache-free with a few drinks or book your agenda free the next day. You can now also dine there and go there during the day for a stylish coffee. We can see ourselves dating and catching up here.
Bar Taru, Koningstraat 58
Not new, but a new place. Haarlem is a place to settle down. A nice house, a tree and a pet. And for that nice house, The James opened in the Kleine Houtstraat, moved to the Schagchelstraat and are now located in a beautiful building in the Warmoesstraat. In this store, Hanna and Vera collect stylish interior items to finish your home. Tableware, lamps, chunky vases and candlesticks, cushions, rugs and more. In terms of colours, many natural shades, cream, white, black and wood. From wooden bowls made in Haarlem to woolen Berber rugs and unique paintings. The James is there for gifts, to brighten up your interior or to ask for advice on the design of your home. Of course, you can also just walk in for some inspiration and cosiness.
