Holiday inspiration: the best destinations for 2026

Joe! We secretly think planning a holiday is always the best thing to do. But determining the destination always remains a rather difficult task. Do we feel like getting cold now? Or in the heat? A mix of both? Oh well, no matter how you look at it, whether you go once a year or more, the holiday feeling remains the same.

We are going to help you make this choice a little easier... Read along with us!

Do nothing at all for one or two weeks and melt away on the beach? We got you! Below are a few places where this works perfectly.

Costa Rica – Start planning, folks! Go into the jungle, balance over suspension bridges, see volcanoes, visit waterfalls, spot wild animals, hot springs tackle, stretch out on the most beautiful beaches and wait until the sun rises on the nicest ones beach club dancing. Precisely. There is something for everyone in Costa Rica. From luxury lodge hotels to trendiest hostels to of course the most beautiful beaches!

Isla Holbox, Mexico – When we think of Mexico, we quickly think of the beautiful beaches, the enchanting blue sea and not to forget: the beautiful sunsets. A lot of hearts are going that way from Barts Boekje. Closing tip from flip, sleep a night Der Casasandra! A golf cart will pick you up at the ferry, and about 10 minutes later you will be on the other side of the island. As if in a cozy (too beautiful!) village, the different huts are on stilts next to each other and you reach the different rooms with stairs - they are beautiful!

Curaçao – This is the ultimate place to do absolutely nothing, because the island is a gift. Beautiful beaches, the best parties, everyone who understands you, good food and, importantly, no one who ever worries about anything. We love coming here!

Would you like to go abroad and experience some excitement? Here are a few locations for the adventurous that you should definitely give a chance.

Peru – This one certainly belongs on this list, because there are very special hiking routes to be found here. Peru is a place that you really can't compare to anything else. Here you will find Machu Picchu, the Inca Trail, and more sandboarding in the desert of Huacachina – very cool if you ask us!

Sri Lanka – Here you will find everything you want! From whale watching to tea plantations to very tasty food. In Sri Lanka you can take the train journey of all train journeys and go to the Yala National Park (elephants! leopards! an open jeep!). There is something for everyone here.

Oceania Cruises  – bucket list; a trip with Oceania CruisesSmall, elegant ships, itineraries that go beyond the standard cruise, and food you would normally book a restaurant for. For their new collection of voyages (through 2028), Oceania is pulling out all the stops, with more than 230 itineraries spread across all continents. From a week-long getaway to epic journeys of nearly three months, this is slow travel at its most luxurious. From the sunny coasts of the Mediterranean, to spotting the Northern Lights and discovering rugged nature in Iceland and Northern Europe, to island hopping in French Polynesia and Fiji.

The sounds of birds around you, the beautiful greenery and the breathtaking waterfalls. For you – nature lovers – this is truly a moment of complete relaxation. Here we go!

Iceland  – No sun, sea and sand, but a winter wonderland full of geysers, volcanoes, glaciers and other natural beauty.

Edinburgh, Scotland – There is always a magic about this land vibe. Here it is as if you have gone back to the Middle Ages. Or suddenly found yourself on a Game of Thrones film set. It has plenty of sights, tiny alleys, the most cozy pubs and is surrounded by an impressive landscape. Nature really takes center stage in this place!

Dalarna, Sweden – Sweden's package is quite complete. The peace, the friendly people, the delicious food and then of course you have the beautiful nature! Dalarna is located in the center of Sweden. A beautiful area with lots of forests, beautiful lakes, hills and mountains, charming villages and cozy towns! This place is the perfect spot in nature for both summer holidays and winter sports.

We can't tear ourselves away from the Alps in the summer. A large part of the Barts Boekje team travels there (frequently). We unanimously agree that Arosa, in Switzerland, is one of the finest places to hang out in the summer. The traditional holiday resort in Graubünden is situated at an altitude of around 1800 meters, right at the end of the romantic Schanfigg Valley. Upon arrival, a surprisingly compact mountain village awaits between the Obersee and the Untersee, enclosed by peaks reaching nearly three thousand meters. A rare kind of Alpine village that never feels rushed, not even in the high season.

For hikers (see, that’s what Kim and Isa from Barts Boekje are focusing on), the options are almost overwhelming: there are some 200 kilometers of trails around Arosa alone, including the fifteen-kilometer-long Zehn-Seen-Wanderung. If you prefer to gain altitude without exertion, the cable car takes you to the Weisshorn, where a 360-degree panoramic restaurant stands at 2653 meters with views of more than four hundred peaks (Madiana is won over!). Halfway up lies the Arosa Bärenland, a sanctuary where rescued bears have found a new home at two thousand meters—an outing that is particularly impressive with children (though Jorien and Maartje enjoy it with small ones!).

A practical bonus: anyone staying overnight in Arosa receives the Arosa Card. With this, the mountain lifts, the lido on the Untersee, and the boat and pedal boat rentals on the Obersee are free. The village bus and the Rhätische Bahn between Arosa and Lüen-Castiel are also included—one of the most beautiful train journeys in Europe—for zero euros.

City lovers

City lovers

Stroll through the city, shop here, shop there and hop from terrace to terrace. Those are the ingredients for a great city trip! We love it.

New York – This remains the most iconic metropolis on earth. The Big Apple, The City That Never Sleeps, The Concrete Jungle. New York definitely belongs on this list, because we are huge fans of it! Here you can read more about our favorite, fun and affordable hotels in New York!

Paris – Ah, oui oui Paris. Another wonderful city, not too far from home. The food is tastier, better and often more extensive than anywhere else. In Paris it's a party every day, every day there is something to see/do or experience. Would you like to read more about the restaurants in Paris? You can do that here!

Marrakech, Morocco – Marrakech is always a good and fun idea. Because beautiful. Because warm. Because good food. Because quite close. Because affordable. Tip for good food: restaurant Sahbi Sahbi. The place is incredibly impressive. Fantastic food, great design, delicious vibe. Go!

Transformational Travel is a new travel trend and you may have heard of it. Transformation trips are travel experiences that empower you to make meaningful, lasting changes in life. That sounds a bit vague, but it involves some damn beautiful trips. This is how Kaer was created with programs designed to promote both mental and physical well-being, stimulate creativity and productivity, and strengthen the connection between people.

Kaer's programs will start in March 2024 with so much fun planned this year in Portugal, Morocco, Spain and Italy, for example. 'Master Your Mind' in Portugal focuses on mindfulness and mental well-being. The “Here and Now” experience in the Moroccan desert consists of activities such as mindfulness, guided hikes and sound healing. The programs in Mallorca are more relaxed and the 'Mountain Mastery' program in the Dolomites is more challenging.

You can read more about the various programs on the Kaer website.
