The Coffee Salon in Amsterdam is the perfect place for your daily cup of coffee

No fuss, just good coffee. The Coffee Salon is the perfect one every day spot. Cozy and hip, but not too hip. This family business has been in Amsterdam for many years and if it were up to us, it will remain that way for a while. The first branch opened in Utrechtsestraat in 2007, and there are now three coffee salons in the city and one at Schiphol. From now on we will drink our daily cup of coffee here.

Cup of Pleur

First things first, coffee. We can be brief about that it is good. The coffee is made the Italian way, with beans from Buscaglione. None here slow coffee of single origin, but 'just' small, powerful cappucini. Tutto Bene. Of course, that coffee requires something sweet. The Koffiesalon is also the right place for that. Think of apple pie, whipped cream truffles, filled cookies, butter cake and filled speculaas (trust us, you want those). All those goodies are baked in the basement of the Spui branch by three real bakers. Previously they did everything themselves, but that turned out to be a bit more difficult than expected. Just like making good coffee, baking also turned out to be an art. All's well that ends well, because they now both have those skills at home (or actually, in the salon). Would you rather have a sandwich? That's possible! These come from Social Hero Network, a social workplace where sandwiches are prepared by people with disabilities.

Coffee and a newspaper

There is no WiFi at the Koffiesalon (except on the Spuistraat, tourists want something too ;)) and we don't mind that at all. On the contrary even. You will find a mountain of newspapers on the table, just as if you were sitting at the kitchen table. Enjoy a good cup of coffee with a cookie and newspaper. Or just a good conversation, of course. Easy does it. Don't get us wrong, we are also fans of working in coffee shops and do so regularly. However, sometimes you just want to have an old-fashioned coffee, without being surrounded by the laptop brigade (guilty). An extra nice thing about the location on Spuistraat is that the building is shared with a home improvement store HAY. Plenty of fun to watch – and take home – so.

Nice and sustainable

Nice and sustainable

The Coffee Salon not only scores points with its coffee and interior. They are also making good progress in the field of sustainability. You get a discount on your takeaway coffee if you bring your own cup, you don't pay anything extra for plant-based milk and you can tap free filtered water in all branches. In addition, there are several vegan options that you won't even realize are vegan. Whether you want a vegan coconut bun, banana bread or... chocolate chip cookie lust? Naturally. All these delicacies are cycled from the Spui to various locations in the city by bicycle courier Tring Tring. That's how we like to see it.
