Your purest Southern breakfast, lunch and dinner tip: SoDelicious in Maastricht
If you get off the train in Maastricht, you will immediately be in the right place. Not only because the city is one of our top favorites in the country, but also because it is right next to Maastricht station. SoDelicious sit. A baker Slash caterer Slash pastry shop Slash restaurant. An all-purpose store where it is impossible to leave the building empty-handed, if you even come out (staying seated is not a punishment). A Limburg gem and: it's a goalkeeper, promised.
Everything at all-rounder SoDelicious in Maastricht screams the word 'experience'. Upon entry, for example, the Huge open kitchen immediately; You can look right through it into the bakery. Cool! And it is certainly not just an 'open' kitchen, for decoration. No, you can even sit next to the kitchen (highly recommended!). This creates an extra 'kitchen table' idea. You also don't have to use Instagram to check photos of the food. Everything is made right in front of you and that makes choosing even more difficult. But now, the supreme moment, does the restaurant live up to its name? YES! Take the sandwich with slightly spicy mackerel rillette and vadouvan cream (a delicious stuff made from various spices such as mustard seeds, garlic, onions/or shallot and cumin seeds). A well-filled plate with all the flavors just right. SoDelicious, so to speak.
Let's go back: how did it all start? Like this: friends Kevin and Robert founded Bread & Delicious in Maastricht in 2009. A pastry and bread bakery where quality came first. And stands. A success and not much later the women (Ellen and Annemarie) of the golden duo were also called in and now work full time in the business. Expansion was just a matter of time. That time came when the neighboring building became available: from Bread & Delicious (which no longer covered the load) the four-in-hand team went to SoDelicious. Bakery, shop and restaurant. Voila! As a result, SoDelicious Maastricht is now almost a 24-hour business: when one staff member enters, the other leaves the building. Speaking of the staff: the gentlemen and ladies of SoDelicious give the word 'hospitable' a new dementia. And we LOVE them for it. Just what the doctor ordered, so to speak.
Nice detail: a large part of the restaurant was made in collaboration with Karwei. If you are inspired, you can run to Karwei immediately after dinner to, for example, get the same wall coverings or lighting.
Nice detail 2: the entire building is transparent. This way you can look into the bakery/caterer/pastry shop from the restaurant. And from that room you look back into the kitchen. All the food is fresher than fresh – you can see for yourself – and if you have any questions, you can ask them in a minute to the bakers. You can even peek from the restaurant to the owners' office.
Nice detail 3: a super nice terrace is hidden at the back of the restaurant. You can sit here in peace and quiet!
In Maastricht City there is always a search for good lunch spots, right? Ain't no more! They are there, but you just have to know it, and you know it now: SoDelicious it is. A gift, especially for lunch (but dinner is also more than good!), you can then immediately go shopping (or vice versa). Grab a pen and paper and write: SoDelicous. In Maastricht. Highly recommended, pinky promise!
Ps: the Limburg pie should not be missing from your shopping basket, you are welcome.
