The most beautiful places to train, sleep, and keep going
No sunbed vacation here, but sweat in the morning, a perfect espresso after the last stretch, and a new city under your running shoes instead of on a hop-on-hop-off bus. Sport is a priority! We kick off in Thailand, morning sun in Phuket, 28 degrees. Your towel is dripping after the first rounds of padwork, while an old Thai man corrects you as if he has been your coach for years. It feels like a vacation, but one with sore muscles instead of cocktails by the pool.
Wow, this was amazing and we would recommend it to everyone immediately. The Atlas Trail by Travelbase is a five-day hike (eight in total, including a night in the gite and travel days). Expect an average of about 15 to 18 kilometers per day and four to seven hours on your feet, enough to sleep like a log at night. The tent camp is your home base, and every evening it is set up in a different, incredible spot. Drinking water is available at every location, washing is basic, and the toilet is… drumroll… nature. You get tips for that too, haha.
The major advantage of booking through Travelbase: the entire organization is taken off your hands: Dutch-speaking guides, unique campsites in places you would never find on your own, and a carefree travel experience from the first to the last moment. The trail runs in June and September. You can still join at the last minute for September, and pre-registration for 2027 is already open, free and without obligation, so you will be the first to know as soon as that offer goes live.

Muay Thai camps are packed with travelers, from beginners to competitive veterans, and the atmosphere is the same everywhere: train, eat, sleep, repeat. You choose your camp, roll out your mat in an open wooden gym, and before you know it, you’ve got two workouts a day under your belt. Often includes accommodation, so you can literally walk straight out of your room into a sweat. A few camps to check out:
One of the most popular is the Tiger Muay Thai Camp, located in the central part of Phuket, and the camp receives between 250-400 trainees per month. As a second option, you have Sumalee Boxing Gym, this gym combines traditional Muay Thai training with Western standards of service, accommodation, facilities, and food. Here is one more option: Bangtao Muay Thai, this one is located in the beautiful Bangtao area. Sidenote: don't be put off by the flashy websites; there is still some upgrading to be done there.

Another one for the medal collection.
Handy: on finishers.com You will find an overview of all races, but be quick, international races often sell out lightning fast. Whether it's festival tickets or half marathons, it makes little difference these days. So grab your calendar, set reminders, and be ready to book.
In addition to planning city trips around half marathons, is Hyrox Naturally, it is also an ideal reason to dive into a city. So here too: have your calendar at hand, keep an eye on booking times, and start thinking about where you'll eat afterwards.
In the category endurance Besides training, we have much more in store. Think of trail running holidays, multi-day hikes, cycling holidays with a purpose and open water swim camps for the Ironmanwannabees Among ourselves. Sporty, yes. But above all: outdoors, far away from gyms, and with a view. We’ve lined up a few favorites for you. Here they come.
At trail running You quickly think of places where the landscape does the work for you: the Alps, the Dolomites, Madeira, or Tenerife. And don't worry: hiking is just as allowed here, should running in the mountains be a bridge too far.
We start in the Alps, in Saas-Fee and the Saas Valley to be precise. Here you will find the Via Ferrata, literally the 'iron road'. So, mountain climbing, but via ladders, steps, and steel cables that secure you safely. It remains exciting nonetheless; those cables are there for a reason. There are several routes in the Saas Valley, but the Via Ferrata Mittaghorn is our favorite. Take the first Alpin Express up early, because this is an alpine day trip that will easily keep you busy for six to seven hours. Suitable for beginners, certainly, but good physical condition is certainly not a luxury. You can read more tips for the mountains and Via Ferrata routes here. here more extensive.
Then on to the Dolomites, where the number of trail paths is almost intimidating. Fortunately, there is Gudrun Hespel, who has already done the thinking for you. She put together a six-day program, including a nice, centrally located hotel. In four full running days, you will tick off the most beautiful highlights without having to consult Google Maps every morning. In total, you will run about 110 kilometers, with the option for a shortcut on three days. That's perfectly fine, we think. It is still a holiday. You can read more about this trail running trip in the Dolomites here. here.
Madeira is one of those places where walking almost happens by itself. Along the coast, in the wind, or sheltered under the jungle canopy. Over levadas, from peak to peak, or something in between. Some hikes take an hour, others effortlessly fill half a day or a full day. And because the island is compact, you can easily combine them. A different landscape every day, without having to constantly move your suitcase. For the most beautiful walking routes and hikes on Madeira, read on. here further, and contact me if you are interested.
Last but not least: Tenerife. Not just Tenerife, but the Tenerife Blue TrailA serious challenge. The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB, from March 19 to 21, 2026, is considered one of the most varied mountain runs in Europe. Starting by the sea, running between rock formations and volcanic peaks, climbing past old lava flows, pausing at an altitude of 3.555 meters with a view over the entire island, and then descending steeply again through pine and laurel forests towards the north coast. After fourteen editions, this has become an icon among trail runners.
From May 13 to May 17, 2026 Girona Completely dedicated to gravel. We don't need to explain to a road cyclist that this Catalan town has become a mecca for cyclists, but with the Girona Gravel, you truly experience it. For five days, you will head out through the region with NL Tour Rides, spread across four different routes that together cover just about all the highlights.
Expect a mix of country lanes, singletracks and rolling gravel stretches, interspersed with medieval villages where you'll spontaneously want to stop for a coffee or a bocadillo. In total, you'll cover 345 kilometers and over 3.000 meters of elevation gain, but don't stress: every stage starts and finishes in the center of Girona, from a hotel fully equipped for cyclists. Think safe bike storage, breakfast at cycling times and like-minded people at the table. Having an off day or just feel like taking it easy? Each stage also has a shortened version of about 60 kilometers. That way, it stays fun, even if your legs aren't cooperating.
Also Tuscany lends itself surprisingly well to gravel adventures. No rough singletracks here, but endless white gravel roads, cypresses (those beautiful trees), vineyards, and villages that look like they were placed there especially for your Instagram. Think of routes around Siena, the Val d'Orcia, and Chianti, where you ride for miles along the famous Strade Bianche drives.
Whether you are just starting out with open water swimming or dive into your local ditch every morning without thinking, the swim camps of Swim Trek There are options for all levels. You can choose a camp with clear holiday vibes, but there are also so-called coaching camps, where you go home not just with a tan, but above all with concrete tools to take your swimming career to the next level.
And no, that doesn't mean trudging through the North Sea. Swim Trek sets up shop in places where the water is clear and the conditions are ideal. Think of Turkey, Cyprus, Gran Canaria, or even Mexico, alongside a number of other destinations with guaranteed sunshine. Perfect for giving your enjoyment and confidence in open water a significant boost, right in the middle of your Ironman or triathlon training.
Active holidays come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes that means training hard in the mountains; sometimes it’s mostly about being outdoors, saltwater, sun on your skin, and moving without a schedule. Enter: surfing. Because catching waves for (at least) a week, lounging in hammocks, and watching the sunset from a remote surf camp is balm for the stress of everyday life. Of course, we understand that you absolutely want to go to Bali for some serious surfing. Or even better: Australia. But suppose that just isn't possible this summer—just for a moment, then fortunately there are plenty of places that are surprisingly close and feel just as good.
Ripstar is a no-brainer in the category of active holidays. Everything is arranged down to the last detail, the atmosphere is relaxed, sociability is a given, and respect for nature comes first. And no, you are never too old to learn to surf. Ripstar organizes small-scale Premium Surf Camps in Europe, with options for 18+, 25+, and 30+. Here, Premium means: nicer, quieter, and more luxurious than your standard surf camp, but still following the most important motto: eat, sleep & surf.
Enter the Wave is also a fixture in the surf camp scene. From the Spanish hills of Oyambre and Asturias to the French pine forests of Biscarrosse and the rugged Portuguese coast just outside Lisbon. Think: good waves, nice people, and an atmosphere where surfing is just as important as eating together, listening to music, and hanging around late after sunset. Perfect for those going with friends, but just as great if you join solo and find your surf crew on the spot.
Sporty, yes. But above all, a holiday. Exactly how we like it. Here the extensive list of surf camps!
