The nicest Dutch beach tents in winter
Now that the beach season has been officially closed, it is time for the best beach season: winter. After all: nothing beats a winter day on the beach. Fresh, salty wind. Get some fresh air. And above all: warm up by the fireplace with a blanket and a cup of steaming coffee, a glass of wine or some excellent winter food. Where in the Netherlands? These are the nicest Dutch beach tents in winter.
Bloemendaal
Bloemendaal is a fun place to visit year-round, and then, of course, Bloomingdale's. Does that ring a bell? It certainly does. It's been a while since it completely burned down, but after an extensive renovation and rebuilding, they're back. And wow! It's turned out beautifully. overallDressed in blue and beige tones, with a touch of wood here and there. Cozy. Cozy. Comfortable lounge sofas with a sea view, but also nice tables to sit at. The terrace is even larger than before, but don't forget the inside, because you'll want to sit there too. Our preference? By the fireplace, or by the window where it feels like you're simply sitting outside.
The Republic, a golden oldie. We've always loved it, but since the makeover we've been eager to come back. The club reinvented itself three years ago. They are open all year round (always were) and got a crazy, contemporary look upgrade With a delightful living room luxury that's – wonderfully – just a little bit different from all the beach clubs we know. Don't get us wrong: we love the Club Zand and Tulum vibes, but a change of pace turns out to be not so bad after all, thanks to De Republiek! Not Ibiza, but Scandinavian vibes. We like it more than just fine.
All year long summer fix necessary, but in the Netherlands? And that´s it, the cheerfully colored San Blas on the beach of Bloemendaal is your answer. Piece tropicana in our own country thanks to the punica oasis which is the place in terms of design (color and coconuts, everywhere). Fireplace, hanging benches and hanging bar? All right.
Zandvoort
A household name for many for years. Not for nothing. With Tijn (we may say Tijn) it is not all that complicated. Simply, the beach bar as you expect it to be with a remarkably good menu; pizzas and burgers, but of the good, somewhat healthy kind, chicken gyozas and snacks of the same kind. Tom Kha Kai and truffle fries. Break bread, nachos, cheese sticks.
A bit of Ibiza, just in your own country. Zandvoort to be precise. You get the idea. Relaxed atmosphere, ultimate enjoyment and also delicious food. You can relax here on one of the lounge sofas and enjoy the sunset with a nice glass of wine. But you can also come here for cozy drinks, birthdays, company parties and more. We are fan.
Your new Italian friend at the beach "Piatti and the restaurant are also quite impressive. A fantastic spot for a slice of Italy on our own coastline. Italian shared dining here. The tent is angled, giving you a completely different perspective on the beach, which is always amusing. Perfect for a delicious breakfast, lunch, dinner, or drinks."
This place just screams coziness. With friends, girlfriends, or family. You'd love to fill the table with treats and have a whole evening of fun. Preferably not so much shared dining? That's fine too. Feel free to bring your own plate. Open year-round, and it's just as nice inside as it is outside. It's also a great spot for parties, weddings, or business drinks.
Harderwijk
We promptly forgot about this, yet it's so fun and unmissable, a Valhalla in Harderwijk. You don't think about it, do you? Neither do we. It's a shame, because it's open summer and winter and is such a great hangout, with live music regularly (yay!), games on the table, and a truly relaxed atmosphere. The food is also great, so there's no reason not to stick around. Joe!
Utrecht
At the moment underconstruction, So stay tuned for the oh so nice Soia in Utrecht.
Veluwe by the Sea
Surprise! After more than ten years, Key West Beachhouse is no longer in Utrecht, but in the Veluwe region by the sea near Putten. The decor, like most of the best beach clubs, is industrially cool: a long bar with a cool print, check. Industrial lamps, check. Chalkboard, check. Chesterfields, metal bar stools, a mishmash of vintage chairs: check, check, check! So. Key West. Now.
Scheveningen
You could almost skip Scheveningen on a beautiful winter day, since most of the nice shops here go into storage during the winter months. But that is not the case with the strikingly attractive De Waterreus. The beach shop is located near the Scheveningen lighthouse and – although we often walked past it in the summer months – is a gem. Blue and white inside and out, fireplace where possible, also outside and an extensive nothing-to-worry-about but good menu. On Sundays you can have breakfast, hotel style, from the extensive buffet for only 14,50 (recommended). In the afternoon and evening there are the usual beach bar dishes on the menu: richly filled sandwiches with mackerel, tuna or carpaccio, a tournedos, satay and mussels. Spare ribs, soup and fried fish for the evenings. O! And lobster. Don't do anything about it anymore.
Don't miss Hart Beach in Scheveningen either, especially if you like surfing. laid-back vibes so you'll find them everywhere, rock & roll and good vibes. A truly enjoyable place to find everything related to surfing. Prefer not to surf yourself? No need to. Just watch while enjoying a snack and a drink. Great idea. Want to surf, but not an expert yet? No need to. You can also take surfing lessons here.
Noordwijk
Tucked away in the Noordwijk Zuidduinen dunes with a panoramic view of the North Sea, lies Beachclub C. The people at 'C' aim to evoke a holiday feeling, and they succeed with the tall palm trees, charming parasols, and beautiful large windows. Oh, and don't forget the handsome parasols with red scalloped edges. it's all in the details. You can enjoy a drink there, with a delicious beverage from the extensive cocktail or wine menu. And yes, even in winter. How fun! Then they organize Winter Wonderland with an ice skating rink.
Just somersaulting distance from Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin, right on the beach, you will feel like you are in the French Riviera (okay, that's what it feels like). A menu where the focus is on fish and where you taste different flavors every season (read: culinary enjoyment). What do we find extra beautiful? Breakers is committed to a more sustainable world. For example, they have a plastic-free terrace and Breakers works together with the MADE BLUE foundation. What we particularly like: the menu (read: Japanese omelette and... lobster, but also a Dutch Seaweed Burger).
A nice spot that has its doors open 365 days a year. With a menu inspired by Middle Eastern cuisine, you will feel like you are in a holiday atmosphere all year round. Of course, classic snacks such as bitterballen and nachos should not be missed (something with never change a winning team). The interior: a picture. The menu: broad and fine. The seats: comfy. In short: a nice place on this list where you will most likely return.
We don't need to tell you that De Branding is the perfect place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner with a sea view. But what makes us so happy is the wonderful bohemian vibe that greets you the moment you step inside. For starters: a beautiful greenhouse. Parasols with streamers, large bowls of fruit, palm trees, lounge sofas, and relaxing Ibiza tunes all come together here at De Branding in Noordwijk. If you really have to (and you do), you can stay all day. Relax on the terrace and take a dip in the sea. Smoothie or cocktail in one hand, snack in the other. Nothing more to do.
If you do one thing on a boring winter Sunday, let it be a walk on the beach, followed by a visit to the beautiful WinterLodge on the beach of Noordwijk. The side greenhouse of the beach tent is full of cozy hanging benches and seats, whether or not next to a tree or under a canopy (everything in the greenhouse), a beautiful open kitchen and fireplaces everywhere (also next to your table, lekkah). Highly recommended as long as it is still cold and you do not have a dog with you, as they are not allowed in, not even small ones. Love the interior of this knapsack? Ha, lucky guy. You can do that here shopping.
Bergen aan Zee
Oh so nice (also because you immediately the star en Hotel Blooming you can take with you(just saying)But beach bar De Jongens is utterly relaxed: nothing to worry about, perfectly executed, and done so skillfully: a cozy interior, good prices for a delicious menu. Fresh soups and hot lunch dishes, Irish coffee, mulled wine, and warm apple strudel are on the menu. There's a wood-burning stove, and dogs are welcome.
So there's also a Stadspaviljoen Noord (City Pavilion North) in the charming heart of the artists' village of Bergen. Also recommended, but this time it's Strandpaviljoen Noord, on the coast of Bergen aan Zee. A fantastic beach pavilion that perfectly captures the ultimate (luxury) beach atmosphere. The menu isn't complicated, but it is extensive and delicious. Snacks abound, as do vegetarian options (which we always enjoy seeing). Read more: Beach pavilion North
Egmond aan Zee
Admittedly, we don't immediately think of Egmond aan Zee in North Holland when we go to the beach for a day in winter. If only we did that more often, because then we would have the most sustainable beach pavilion in the Netherlands... At least that's what they say themselves. We saw a value judgment when we were in the tent, but online we mainly came to a 'we from WC Duck' conclusion. That doesn't matter in itself, because what matters most is that the business does its best. And it's fun! The tent is large and clean – nice. The latter certainly also applies to the menu, which is now different than usual: really tasty wines for reasonable prices (a delicious Sauvignon blanc for 4,9) and even the simplest toasted sandwiches on a plate. foccacia are surprising.
With kids? A beach bar further away The Silver Gull. It is certainly not big (small even) but it has a great children's corner and is also open all year round!
We love it when we discover a hidden gem in a less-hyped spot that still ticks all the boxes when it comes to an undeniably wonderful beach bar. Light hues, plants everywhere, that feeling of a summer breeze on a warm day… Well, that's exactly what Evi Beach Egmond aan Zee offers. Note: this establishment is weather-dependent, as stormy they are closed again.
Castricum
Club Zand is one of those alluring beach club addresses: a touch of hippie, a touch of boho, a bit of whitewash here, and a lot of casualness there. Relax in the rattan (hanging) chairs in front of the door, with your eyes on the sea. Aside from the stunning looks is Club Sand a favorite because the beach pavilion is part of Castricum aan Zee, also called Bakkum aan Zee. Not a 'real' seaside resort like Zandvoort or Noordwijk aan Zee – no one lives there and there is no boulevard – and therefore it is generally much less densely populated. Beach (even voted the cleanest in the Netherlands in 2014), forest, dunes and Club Zand, that's all. And a cold beer. Oh, dogs welcome!
In the dunes of Castricum you have to go where secretly the first guests have already stayed in what is undoubtedly the most handsomecoastal hotel of the country. The place is run by the folks at restaurant/beach pavilion Zoomers who, with two locations of their content, know exactly how to do it, receive guests, spoil them and make sure that everyone leaves satisfied. Also in its current form. And there, on the beach of Castricum, you will also find the beach pavilion with the same name: Zoomers. But then Beach Pavilion Zoomers, you understand. Just as nice a place.
Beachbar & Restaurant Zeezicht (the first pavilion on the left on Castricum aan Zee) is open all year round. So great! Because we love winter walks by the sea. Get a fresh red nose and then enjoy a hot chocolate or a good snack board. Even in winter there is always going on at Zeezicht, from tastings and events to fun live music. You can also have a nice lunch or dinner there. Of course it is also nice to relax in the summer sun with your feet in the sand. Oh, and don't forget: you can also get married there. Isn't it crazy, the most beautiful day of your life under the starry sky with only the sound of the waves in the background. Well, Zeezicht is just one of those places where you always want to go and never want to leave.
The Hague
The Coast Beach House stands high on its legs, a nice bike ride from the center of The Hague, between The Hague and Hoek van Holland. It's chic inside. Fine. Almost un-beach tent-esque. The food is excellent, the beach perfect for a nice long walk with the dog, but the service at The Coast varies. Oh well, go see for yourself.
Wow, we rarely encounter beach bars this perfect. Hito in Scheveningen clearly belongs in the ranks of Aloha Wijk aan Zee, Republiek-style beach restaurants, because even "tent" sounds a bit too cheesy. How? Think: a permanent beach house, full of warm wood, warm colors, burgundy tiles, and the right menus (from breakfast to dinner) to stay there all day. Read more about Hito
West Frisian Islands
It might not be around the corner for many, but it's a really nice one. Heartbreak Hotel in Terschelling, open every day of the year. Open all day during peak season and summer, and in winter it closes a bit earlier (we accept that, we get itIn the evening, you can dine comfortably in the pavilion overlooking the sea. You have to love it, but the interior here is a bit different than in other (beach) establishments. It's very blue and pink, geared towards the fifties and sixties. Of course, that includes American-style hamburgers, and Elvis is here. still aliveThe speakers blast music from Elvis Presley (how could it be otherwise), Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, and many more. The decor isn't exactly our cup of tea, but it's still a nice place.
Part of From Heeckeren (always a fan), they have more wonderful establishments: Restaurant Proeflokaal Rixt, Grand Café Van Heeckeren, and of course, the beach club The Sunset. Here, they serve the best sushi and sandwiches while you chill with your feet in the sand. Or not, because staying indoors is also a great idea. A weekend trip to Ameland is always a good idea, especially with Van Heeckeren and all its wonderful establishments.
Het Badhuys, Vlieland, a beach pavilion as it should be with sun loungers and seats in front of the wooden facade that has grayed from the sea salt. It is best to lounge in the cotton beach chairs in front of the door and when the sun sets in the sea and the sky turns pink above the wide, white beach, everything is in perfect order. Oh, and nacho chips from the oven with melted cheddar, cream cheese, tomato salsa and guacamole, they have those too. And also open all year round.
Our favorite beach pavilion on Texel has to be Standpaviljoen Kaap Noord, at the northernmost point of the island. Not that all the other beach pavilions aren't great, not at all, but Kaap Noord has a few advantages. Like the view of Vlieland, the photogenic wooden pier, the sea that seems calmer there (or is it?), the relaxed playlist of "remember these, these, these, these tunes," and if the weather's bad, you can relax in the hanging chairs by the stove or on the sheepskin rugs at the bar or the colorful tables.
On a Wadden island, you naturally have a choice of several great beach clubs. In terms of interior, Beach Club Texel is certainly one of the nicest on Texel. The stand with blue and white tones is the key For that natural beach feeling. Open not only in summer, but also every day in winter. It won't surprise you, but the menu is inspired by the island (big fat like), With a strong focus on fish and local produce, but with a fresh twist. You come here not only for the beautiful beach and the stunning view, but also because it's simply good.
We're staying on the Wadden Islands for a while longer. Texel to be precise, and Peek aan Zee to be even more precise. It's located at Paal 15. Peek aan Zee is simply a nice, no-nonsense place. A bit of a run-of-the-mill, but it doesn't need to be anything more. Especially not with that endless beach right in front of you. The food is great, the seating is comfortable, and the sunsets are magnificent. That's all good enough. During the winter months, they have a Christmas pavilion, which makes it extra cozy. Add some mulled wine, and we're in for a wonderful time.
Hoek van Holland
The Surf Shack is located in the surfers' area of Hoek van Holland, you know, on the Rotterdam coast. Pele Surf Shack is not only a wonderful place to spend a summer day… they're also the first completely plant-based beach club in the Netherlands.
Inspired by the wonderful Bali and its surf culture of course, what else. At Uluwatu Beach Club you can relax and then end the day with dinner. Sounds like a plan.
At R Port Beach, you overlook the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam. Trust us: that view is truly impressive! Enjoy a summer drink or a winter meal, because yes, they're open in the fall too. R Port also offers a range of fun workshops. How about stepping into an ice bath à la Wim Hof or a cocktail-making workshop? R Port Beach is truly one of the best beach clubs to visit in winter.
Koudekerke
Do you remember our story about De Botanist in Breda? No? You can here read it again quietly. After all, Breda is nice, but Breda is even more fun when it moves to the sea. And so it happened in the case of De Botanist: a 45-minute drive from the city center of 076, near Dishoek, De Botanist aan zee opened. The same relaxed plant-vibes but on the beach – just say no to that.
Vinkeveen
We love Vinkeveen! It is beautiful, it is quiet and there are many pearls to discover. The perfect combination: Just check in at the harbor houses of Zwier in a small marina less than 20 minutes from Amsterdam (east). If you do that, sail to the left out of the harbor and discover Wander Island Vinkeveen. You moor and walk straight to the 'beach bar' with its own beach.
Zeeland
Of course, some beach bars in Zeeland stay open year-round. Take Bombaai Beach Bar, for example, a charming beach bar in Westkapelle. Thanks to its colorful interior, delicious food, and friendly staff, you'll almost forget it's winter. At Bombaai, you can enjoy the most delicious snacks, drinks, and dishes all day long – from brunch to dinner. Surprising street food dishes, local specialties, and international cocktails are on offer, and vegetarian and vegan options are clearly marked.
Did you know that nowadays we have a lot of nice articles about addresses in Zeeland? That's right! Just look here: Bart's Booklet goes Zeeland (and yes, that includes Goes)
Anyway, the place is beautiful. Leave that to Sergio Herman and co, the owners of the business, the associated Beach Hotel and star restaurant Pure C, all in Cadzand. Pine House it is easy access address of the club and is perfect for the day. If your eyes are still a little closed (because early, because you have breakfast), you will certainly wake up quickly when you see the lovely bright spot on the water. On to the buffet, where you can enjoy the breakfast buffet of beach hotel Cadzand. Everything local, everything fresh and lots of goodies from our own bakery. Read more
Beach café Dok is located in the well-known Zeeland seaside resort of Renesse. In winter, you can warm up by the fireplace with a glass of prosecco while the kids play in the adjacent indoor playground or pool. Beach café Dok is located in the beach park "De Zeeuwse Kust" (Zeeuwse Kust Beach Park). Address: Helleweg 8, Renesse.
Wijk aan Zee
Timbuktu & Aloha, Wijk aan Zee. Yes, two in one. Because Aloha has been widely praised since its reopening after the fire (top design, top food, top service), we do not want to do justice to our neighbors Timbuktu. The beach bars Timbuktu and Aloha can be found on the beach of Velzen-Noord. That is, if you have transportation. Walking or public transport is not an option, and not everyone finds the smoke ovens along the beach equally attractive. But perhaps that is precisely why this stretch of Dutch coast attracts so many relaxed beachgoers. Not too difficult, friendly crowd, one of the widest beaches in the country and your dog is welcome, provided it is on a leash. You can lie back and people watch at Timbuktu, which is actually the nicest of the two, but you can also enjoy delicious food at the adjacent Aloha.
