6 x a 'Piece' of Tel Aviv in Amsterdam
Now you can book a ticket (do! You can read the best thing about Tel Aviv, part 1, here), but you can also just book a table at one of the Tel Aviv-style restaurants in our own capital. Because it exists, a 'piece' of Tel Aviv in Amsterdam! Are you reading along?
BARDAK? Is that a roof terrace? No no, it is a mega-fine, fun, handsome and attractive restaurant with a – note – Israeli angle. A longing for Tel Aviv, that is. The owners first opened Bar FISK. That was already nice (see below). To then open a second store: BARDAK. Conclusion? Although there is a lot of love here for Bar Fisk (really!), BARDAK is probably the favorite. No. Definitely a favorite. Why? There is love in the air and the service is fantastic. So observant, so thoughtful. Plus: Oh. Oh. That food… Read everything here: BARDAK Amsterdam
Hear hear to all the Veggies out there (and not veggies either): the Israeli food that has long been known among Amsterdam connoisseurs mini restaurant ManaMana reopened its doors on Eerste Jansteenstraat (de Pijp) and, if possible, serves the tastiest vegetarian (and vegan on request) dishes there. Tip: let the chef decide what is on the table (although, to be fair, this is also somewhat expected of the guests), but make sure you don't miss the much-praised eggplant! And the homemade (duh) hummus. Tasty!! For the carnivore who cannot spend an evening without it, there is kebab on a stick. Also to enjoy. The mini shop can be (too) busy on Fridays and Saturdays, so go during the week. ManaMana
The old Citroën garage on the stadium square in Amsterdam South, where the nicest pop-up once housed (the predominantly pink Citroen; nowadays these people are in FC Hyena in Amsterdam North) finally gets a new definitive destination: the Tel Aviv based restaurant is coming! That is not small, to say the least, and it cannot be otherwise since the former garage is enormous. Big shoes to fill (figuratively and literally thanks to Citroen, by the way plenty the traveling restaurant BAUT also here). And although past results are no guarantee for the future, the Molcho family, the people behind NENI (which stands for Nuriel, Elior, Nadiv and Ilan, the four sons of Haya and Samy Molcho) seems to be the best candidate for the spot to be: NENI is already a success in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Vienna. Oh, and almost as nice: part of the space is reserved for the bar of The Lemonman. We hear hands on hands everywhere and then they still have to open... You will soon hear what we found.
Hear hear to all the Veggies out there (and not veggies either)
With the rise of vegetarian food also came the expansion of the (Dutch) love for hummus – and rightly so. Because the spread is very versatile, healthy and simply very tasty. Now I always thought it was a bit of a breakfast thing, or at least best for lunch. But no: as they preach at Hummus Bistro D&A: there is no perfect time for hummus! And so they are open every day until 23 p.m. (there are also hot variations on the menu). A well-deserved success. It is not surprising that a second, larger location opened: in addition to the Westerstraat, you can now also find Hummus Bistro D&A in Amsterdam East, near the mill on the Oostenburgergracht.
In the past... Well, a while ago, you only came to the Eerste Sweelinckstraat in the Amsterdamse Pijp for the Aussies from LittleCollins (who also opened a second branch in Amsterdam West!). Now you can still go there with peace of mind, I would say, but be sure to look a bit further at the Israeli people who have their Bar Fisk Amsterdam opened. A restaurant like we never had before in Amsterdam. Read all about it: Bar Fisk
There is no easier entry-level vegetarian dish than hummus. The chickpea stew is a blessing and an addiction for your non-vegan or vegetarian undersigned. Because so tasty, healthy (right? yes) and just delicious. Especially the mess made by the men of Sir Hummus on the edge of the Amsterdamse Pijp. For lunch, yes, but also for dinner, although you might not think/expect that one, two, three. Well. Sir Hummus (also) serves warm chickpea puree dishes. With Spicy Aubergine for example, two pita breads, pickle and veggie sticks. But also Slow Cooked Beef with slowly cooked beef on top of warm hummus with whole chickpeas and again those pita breads, pickles and veggie sticks. Additional advantage: what you don't eat can be added to sandwiches the next day. We call that close to each other.
