New: BARDAK Amsterdam

BARDAK. Bar FISK. BARDAK? Is that a roof terrace? Bar FISK? Is that a fish auction? No no, they are two very nice, fun, handsome and attractive restaurants with an - mind you - Israeli angle. A longing for Tel Aviv, that is. The owners of the two tents opened the first Bar FISK. That was already nice. And now they recently opened a second store: BARDAK. Conclusion? Although there is great love here for Bar Fisk (really!), BARDAK is probably still a favorite. No. Definitely a favorite. Why? The same love is in the air as at Bar Fisk and the service is fantastic. So observant, so thoughtful. Plus: Oh. Oh. That food...

To start at the beginning: the location of BARDAK: nice and central, absolutely good. Just a few doors away from Marie Heinekenplein (where The tulip is celebrating his first birthday – the reason to go to the square). Great for the fun, that square, and you can also enjoy a beer there, but really good food... Mwah. In comes BARDAK.

So we went and entered with anticipation – we know (and love'n) Bar Fisk after all, so hopes were high. But hey, it's a new business so there will be some teething problems, we thought. Wrong! The welcome was immediately most cordial (we love it when you have us at hello) despite the crowds. And yet BARDAK had only been open for a few days. Hats off (to all people in the house who certainly also love Bar Fisk). We got a top table in the back, next to the kitchen. Bonus.

Then we were thirsty. Can the people of BARDAK help us: an excellent explanation of the cocktail menu followed. What turns out? One of the bartenders (forgive us, after this explanation and a few sips we forgot his name) has traveled around Australia, gained information, learned, shaken and brought all this knowledge to BARDAK. We had to do the 'granny smith' and it must be said: we had never tasted such a fresh apple. Certainly not in a cocktail.

Top cocktails, a tip-top atmosphere and a nice place next to the kitchen. And then… The food. Spot on we might say. On the menu (ours) a burnt egg plant with creamy sauce, next to it a fresh tomato salad. Baked cauliflower. Lamb sweetbreads. Chicken livers. We want more. Of course we also told the chef because yes, we were sitting next to the kitchen. As it turns out. The chef, imported from Bar FISK, has drawn up the menu and filled it with his favorites from home (the far-away exotic Israel). Simply because he misses these dishes so much. That broke our hearts, and so the love grew even deeper, ending in a dessert parade. Order them all: you won't be disappointed.

All in all, a big praise for BARDAK. But what can we say? We're just a bit 'on' BARDAK.
