Kilometres of nothing at all, in the south of Portugal it is still possible. Here in Arraiolos, a small town just outside Evora in the middle of Portugal, is Villa Extramuros, a sleekly designed villa in an absolutely non-modern environment, in the category of hideaway. At first glance a bit out of place, but if you look further, you will see that the architecture and the interior of the villa blend in with the Mediterranean environment through ethnic details, striking art pieces, cowhides and colourful rugs. And although a colour scheme of black, white and red is normally quite harsh, here it is reminiscent of Iberian bullfights, the setting sun and full red wine. There are five rooms, all hypermodern and equipped with the latest technical feats (almost everything works via the ridiculously simple remote control) which is a nice homecoming after a walk through the olive groves with an overflowing picnic basket under your arm or a dip in the sleek swimming pool.
