One of our favorite summer terraces in all of Amsterdam is the terrace of 't Badhuis on Javaplein in Amsterdam East. But the Badhuis was emptied, so we looked around to find out which lucky owner would fill the top spot. 'The Wise Ones', we thought, but they would then become neighbors with themselves (Supermercado is next door), so that chance seemed small. But they became the nice young guests from Oedipus! The men already have a (pretty cool) classroom Amsterdam North (it is still there and that is also a top tip) where it is indeed really cool, but where you don't cycle past all year round for a snack and a beer. So that's a lot of fun Oedipus in the Bathhouse sit! They're open and it's awesome! Not least because there is a real (vegetable-oriented) chef who puts the best beer-meal combos on the table.

And the residents of Hugo de Grootplein in Amsterdam West also had new neighbors: the men of Two Chefs Brewing took over Razmataz's business. The store was renovated beyond recognition: an explosion of color it is (and we like). What remained? The very large sunny terrace.

It's a difficult one to let go: where oh where are we going to eat outside this summer? Where are the tables set up in the grass, can we find a spot in the shade and where do the farm animals roam around us? Ok, that last one is a bit of a stretch sometimes stretch maar you get what we are aiming at. We made a (laundry) list: these are our favorite outdoor restaurants. One of those locations not to be missed is the new one tasting room House of Bird in the Diemerbos, opened by the people of the Bird Brewery brewery. A brewery yes, specialty beers galore, and a great terrace under whispering trees.

There was already one Butcher's Tears Brewery Tap, 'beer garden & kiosk' at Karperweg 45. Quite a bit hidden, but that's okay, because the folks at Butcher's Tears don't mind going around the block. Enough people did that, and so it was time for a second location. That became Amsterdam West, a bit more visible next to the Marktkantine/central market hall. One here too beer hall, terrace & kiosk with delicious fries, perhaps a secret reference to the old occupier of the building (FEBO) or simply because beer and fries are great together. And for those who get tired - not us - they shake up a great cocktail.

Brouwerij 't IJ also has not one but two tasting rooms and you can join both without blinking. In Amsterdam East you already had De Molen, for years a great address with a great terrace where you can taste the well-known and unknown IJ beers.

But there is more: the men are now also located in the famous Blauwe Theehuis in the middle of the Vondelpark. And on a summer day that is really the best place to sit - even on a non-summer day. You can reserve the tables on the top terrace floor, the ground floor is open for walk-ins.

Anyone who drives into Amsterdam from the west can already see it: at one of the ends of the Houthavens, with the water (a little further away) in the back, the nose towards the road and - and that is important - the terrace in the sun you will find the beer room of The Prael in the Houthavens.
