Haarlem is slowly conquering our hearts, but what was certainly missing was a really, really good coffee bar. We should know, because fresh in Haarlem and always up for a cup of coffee. Good news for those with us: you can stop searching. Ax specialty coffee opened its doors and that was love at first sight.

Owner Axel has been 'in' coffee for some time. The young, friendly barista previously worked at Brandmeesters and Mogador and then went to Australia before and after, business and leisure. What appealed to Axel about the coffee scene down under were those small, cool, fresh places where you make a quick pit stop for a kick-ass espresso. We understand. His ultimate dream: his own coffee bar – Auzzie style – in Haarlem. We understand too.

Ax specialty coffee on Kruisstraat is exactly that. A small, cozy, authentic building, tastefully decorated and with a beast of a coffee machine as the central focal point. Here you can get a latte on the way to the station or on the way to the city. You can also linger at the window or outside on the tiny terrace. Combine your coffee with a sandwich from the neighbor, because there is Broekhof, the Butcher's Daughter in an equally crazy nice building. About the coffee itself: it's from Stoker and of high quality. A new bean on the machine every season and everything set by Ax himself. Go go!
