And here it is, at last, our garden house! So happy with it. The garden has suddenly become a sort of South of France meets the Cotswolds, and I’ve already completely turned it into my workspace. It was a huge job... And we learned a lot from it. And I’ll leave it at that ;-)
The starting point was really to use and reuse what was already there: the large white tiles are from Karwei and we mixed them with black tiles left over from our bathroom. That way, you can very easily create an original floor. And because the ground in front of the cottage is very uneven, we built a deck in front of it, creating a real island. The cushions on the sofa inside come from the garden of our old house, and the square striped mattress cushions are from Karwei. Just like the lamps. The small yellow table is new, the green pouf and the large parasol are from Karwei last year (the same goes for the garden table and the chairs in the foreground: whoever saves things...).
I can already hear the calls for the colors ;). Everything comes from Karwei's mixing service, but with Farrow and Ball color codes. The green is Bancha No. 298, the yellow is Dayroom Yellow No. 233, and the red is Romesco No. CB4. You provide these names and codes to the mixing service and that's it!
Barts Boekje episode 625263040 of 'Just LOOK how nice the Netherlands is!' Because it is. We went taking a look in and around Volendam – so fun and beautiful and cozy!
Why? Because we went to @vandervalkhotelvolendam: highly recommended! A magnificent hotel with a patisserie, restaurant, and bar – in a prime location at very good prices. And 20 minutes from Amsterdam, should you want to combine it (also a good idea).
Listed here are a few of our favorite spots in the neighborhood (and of course, you can find the rest on bartsboekje.com)

A mini break for two, and I can SO recommend it to everyone. Pick up your child (one, the others can come another time) and go on vacation together for a few days. So. Incredibly. Fun.
We made ourselves super comfortable and stayed at the hotel a lot too: @ibizabay is a huge tip for that, especially with kids. The best kids' club and an amazing spa where I actually spent a whopping 1,5 hours twice because Elvis thought the kids' club was so fantastic. Okay, that's good.
But we also tracked down old and a few new spots, and starting next week, they will all be on the website and in the e-guide. Including many of our favorite fincas, where I prefer to stay with a friend or the family. But first, a tribute to the vacation with my bestie.
Oh! And we wrapped up the week at @nativohotelibiza where we stayed for the 2nd time, just like at Nobu Ibiza Bay: a very nice place for really good prices.
(Elvis sang this song all week. Don't judge)
As much as we love testing, tasting, and trying new things, sometimes nothing beats playing it safe. Especially when you’re short on time (hello super-fast pit stop in The Hague) and just want to sit down and enjoy a nice, cozy meal. The answer: Pizza Beppe. Located in many places and consistently good. In The Hague too!
We went for a limoncello spritz to start (the drink of this summer, I've been told... okay, fine). Wonderfully refreshing and the perfect start. The pecorino with truffle honey, along with the Pizza Piccante Burrata, was the absolute favorite. You can taste the freshly made tomato sauce, and it is truly delicious.
For dessert, we *had* to (the gentle coercion was appreciated) try the homemade tiramisu, and it was really good. But still... the vanilla ice cream with olive oil and sea salt was the favorite.
'Our' @liespolet went to Kortrijk a few weeks ago and it was so much fun, that just had to be shared here too (Lies compiled all the tips into an article on BartsBoekje.com. Just type 'Kortrijk' into the search bar on the homepage and you're there.
(Spoiler: So Kortrijk is Very Nice)
And because you all responded so well to my request for even more fun things to do in Maastricht (see a few posts back, 'Here for the captions!'): let me know what we missed in Kortrijk, for the next round!
