Hotel Plantage Rococo, Velsen

Hotel Plantage Rococo, Velsen

Not for nothing Plantation country estate one of our favorite addresses below (or above) Amsterdam. This is how we took in the spot Little Escapes book and we regularly shouted praise about the eco-restaurant here. And there's more: the owners opened Hotel Plantage Rococo by Buitenplaats – and of course that can only be good news. An enormous love for history and authenticity is paramount. You feel and see that. That casual yet stylish, that friendly yet aristocratic... That starts when you arrive at the enormous stately building in the middle of the greenery. You park near the horses, then take a walk, turn the corner and BAM! Plantage Rococo, eco-restaurant, café and hotel by Buitenplaats Plantage, in your face.

Boutique hotel Lytel Blue, Riethoven

Boutique hotel Lytel Blue, Riethoven

A small-scale boutique hotel in the ever burgundy and green Brabant, that is Lytel Blue in Riethoven. The rooms in the monumental building are spacious, yet very cozy. How? Due to the combination of different shades of (dark) blue (even the ceilings are painted and we have wanted that at home for a long time) and many wooden beams and wicker details. Speaking of details: everything is correct. Also pay attention to the sockets in the plastic-free room, because even those are nice. Furthermore, you are a stone's throw away from a lot of nature and you can fully charge both at Lytel Blue and in the surrounding area. Just on the hiking trails, but also at Alpacafarm Riethoven or in the vineyard around the corner. Of course, you can combine all this with a luxurious dinner: we're not animals Hey. You will find it opposite the hotel Restaurant Vandeijck (reservations are recommended). In the morning you don't have to cross the street, because then you start the day with a great (gluten-free) breakfast at Lytel Blue itself.

There are twenty-two suites and rooms spread across the estate.

The Kastanjehof

The Kastanjehof

The only hotel in the Lage Vuursche that has this The Kastanjehof already an advantage. Haven't heard of this quaint, picturesque village before? That's not surprising, because fewer than 300 people live here. And lucky those who spend life in this oasis of green. Drakensteyn Castle is nearby (so beautiful) and you can play mini golf on the most beautiful course in Europe (bucketlist. thing). There are also plenty of cozy terraces and restaurants, beautiful cycling and walking routes, Hooge Vuursche Castle and Soestdijk Palace. And plenty of fun for the kids with horse riding, mini golf, pancake restaurants and climbing games in the forest. Read more about The Kastanjehof.

Hotel Beijers, Utrecht

Hotel Beijers, Utrecht

The little one is unexpectedly sympathetic and oh so cute Hotel Beijers in the center of Utrecht. You will find the hotel in the monumental building in Achter Sint Pieter. If you know the hotel and think… Eh? OK? Did I fall on the back of my head? No no no! Please note that a new operator, a young team with taste (a lot of taste), moved into the site in mid-2020. The fabulous 17th century building received a lick of paint, and that lick in particular is one of the reasons why we are so incredibly enthusiastic: the colors are perfect and the combination between the historic details and fresh mint green on classic louvered doors, deep old red on the walls and ceiling, dark lavender for the beamed ceiling of an otherwise fresh-white room and the forever perfect combination of pink and red makes our mouths water. The hotel is now run by the people of Utrecht City Concepts, a company with several hotels in the city (all top hotels such as the Mother Goose Hotel and the Eye Hotel). They kept the colorful artsy nature of the hotel, but gave the place a big dose of oomph. And, dogs are also welcome. The hotel is in the middle of the city and we never want to leave. You don't have to; plenty to do in Utrecht.

BEACH HOTEL ZOOMERS

BEACH HOTEL ZOOMERS

You must visit the dunes of Castricum. The paint is still wet and we haven't been yet, but the whole place was decorated from A to Z by the creative and ridiculously tasteful guys behind HKliving. Then you know – it has undoubtedly become the most beautiful coastal hotel in the country. The place is run by the people of restaurant Zoomers who, with two locations of their content, know exactly how to do it, receive guests, pamper them and ensure that everyone walks out satisfied.

Hotel Mooirivier, Dalfsen

Hotel Mooirivier, Dalfsen

Transformed old farms are a secret crush and if it turns out as beautifully as at the Mooirivier hotel, you will want to stay forever. Add to that a fantastic kitchen, an amazing one view and unprecedented service at op and you understand why we want to move into Mooirivier tomorrow.

Located in the middle of Overijssel nature hotel Mooirivier Dalfsen. A family business located in a thatched farmhouse-like farm on the edge of Dalfsen. And we would actually be doing Mooirivier a disservice if we were to call it only a hotel, because it is also a restaurant with a lounge terrace on the Vecht, and has a gigantic forest as a backyard.

WSHS Gouda HOTEL RELAIS & CHÂTEAUX ORPHANAGE, GOUDA

WSHS Gouda HOTEL RELAIS & CHÂTEAUX ORPHANAGE, GOUDA

This used to be a wonderful hotel WSHS Gouda the Chaplain Orphanage where the poor children of the city could go. Later it was merged with the adjacent Jerusalem Chapel and voila: the hotel as we know it today is a fact. Over the years, the Orphanage has had several functions, but has always been run by a group of energetic women. So much history and all in the center of surprisingly nice Gouda. All the fun is literally around the corner! When you say Gouda, you say cheese: the Waag and the cheese market – which has been around since 1198 – are just around the corner, just like the rest of the vibrant South Holland city center. The WSHS was decorated by interior stylist Judith van Mourik, who also designed the styling of Parc Broekhuizen near Utrecht. And yes, that is good news to say the least.

WSHS Gouda

Pillows

Pillows

Ooohh hello ALL the Pillows hotels. Of course, you could no longer call the hotels of the Pillows group a boutique hotel (because you could now call Pillows a chain)... But we still think all Pillows locations are ultimate. Intimate and just very beautiful. For example, move yourself to Pillows Grand Hotel Ter Borch in Zwolle, or to the youngest (and beautiful offspring): Pillows Hotel Maurits at the Park. Wherever you go, success is assured.

Boutique Hotel Luttik, Alkmaar

Boutique Hotel Luttik, Alkmaar

Located in one of the most beautiful monumental buildings in Alkmaar, you will find this everything-under-one-roof place. It is a boutique hotel (oh, so beautiful!), it is a coffee bar where you can get delicious coffee and other refreshments, and it is also a concept store for all kinds of beautiful and fun things. Right in the old center of Alkmaar you can be anywhere you want to be in no time - the pub, the shops, a good restaurant, the cheese market - you name it: LUTTIK is close.

LUTTIK has six wonderfully light and spacious rooms, all in its own recognizable 'LUTTIK' style: quiet warmth and no distracting fuss. Most rooms have a spacious bath where you can relax after a day die hard shopping and having a drink, or else you can just do that under the spacious rain shower. This concept store was a very clever idea from founders Hester and Geert, because everything you see in the hotel and in the coffee bar you also want at home and you can therefore buy it here.

Hotel Het Scheepshuys, Breda

Hotel Het Scheepshuys, Breda

In a quite unique villa on the edge of the historic center of Breda Hotel Het Scheepshuys. And Hotel Het Scheepshuys is a picture. Some art deco elements here and there, lots of light colors, lots of daylight anyway.

We wrote a rather extensive report on that, and you read it here

The White Lady, Abcoude

The White Lady, Abcoude

Abcoude is a cloud of an artists' village close to Amsterdam. Strolling along the cobblestones and peeking in on the happy residents is a great way to spend a Sunday morning, we can tell. A nice place to sleep was still missing, but that problem has also been solved: enter boutique hotel The White Lady, located in the renovated Abcoude train station with the Het Gein polder as a backyard. There are ten rooms with their own kitchenette and a luxurious bathroom, which you can book from 120 euros. The rooms are relaxing, just like the restaurant on the ground floor where the diffused light seeps in beautifully through the semi-circular windows in the autumn

The Nox Utrecht

The Nox Utrecht

Planning to go to Utrecht? Always a good idea. And if you want a hotel tip, here it is The Nox Hotel really recommended. This boutique hotel is located in the center of the city and has a wonderful atmosphere where you really feel like you are in luxury. A perfect place to stay after a day of strolling through the streets of Utrecht.

The Nox Hotel is a fairly new hotel, it opened its doors in the autumn of 2020 after a four-year renovation. The dark blue color of the night is central to this beautiful old building with a rich history. As soon as you enter here you taste the atmosphere, and it is really wonderful. Dark and warm with a touch of luxury. Read more

La Paulowna Boutique Hotel, The Hague

La Paulowna Boutique Hotel, The Hague

We are probably not the only ones who would rather drive to the beach than to the city center when spending a night in The Hague. It is probably for this reason that the Hofstad is not very well endowed with places to stay to write home about. But they are there, pearls from The Hague, and how. Boutique Hotel La Paulowna The Hague for example, a small boutique hotel on the lively Anna Paulownaplein in the oh-so-nice Zeeheldenkwartier. That square is possibly the most beautiful in the city, with a series of catering establishments in stately buildings, surrounded by beautiful old trees and terraces with handsome young people. In one of the chic buildings in The Hague, a former bank building, five guest rooms were created that were together baptized Boutique Hotel La Paulowna, after the square. Boutique Hotel Beekhuizen, Velp

Boutique Hotel Beekhuizen, Velp

Quirky places are precisely those places that we love and look for. Well, another one has been found. Boutique Hotel Beekhuizen, in a beautiful location in the Veluwezoom National Park, is small and cozy, wonderfully quirky and jaw dropping attractive. The hotel is just the right size, the rooms are spacious and light, and you also have plenty of space outside. For yourself, your family or the other person lucky one who can come along. Gold & Silver, Gorinchem

We are enthusiastic, and you will soon be too. Hotel Goud en Zilver has eight original rooms spread over a number of buildings in the nicest street in Gorinchem. There are three upstairs in the building where the reception is also located, there is one room behind the breakfast room with a terrace on the water, there are another three rooms next door, and further down the street you will find room number eight.

Hotel de Lochemse Berg

Hotel de Lochemse Berg

Hotel de Lochemse Berg. A gem in Gelderland where we have already stretched ourselves a few times, and I am still staring at it. Creative and artistic, nostalgic (especially from the outside but also a little within the walls of the stately building), but thanks to the recent renovation, also serious for today, that is the place in the forest, just under 4 kilometers from the picturesque town Lochem (NL). In 2014, the current owners moved into the building and realized their dream: 'a hotel that is not a hotel, but a friendly Bed & Breakfast where everyone feels at home and enjoys the beauty that the area has to offer'.

Villa Augustus, Dordrecht

Villa Augustus, Dordrecht

Who has never been there Villa August has been to Dordrecht, you can immediately close your laptop and get in the car, train or bike. After just one look at the website you will understand what the owners of Villa Augustus had in mind: a playful restaurant/shop/vegetable garden/bakery/orchard/hotel where only pure, mainly home-grown ingredients are used. Success. The gardens alone (we call it a flower garden, a vegetable garden, an orchard and an Italian garden) around the fantastic old pump building of the Dordrecht water tower where Villa Augustus is located are worth a visit. The hotel has 37 rooms, twenty in the tower and seventeen around the garden. The blackboards above the kitchen show dishes that are made in small batches and change from day to day. Every morning the ash wood-fired wood oven is lit for roasting or baking fish, tomatoes and beets; but the favorite remains the seasonal pizza. Then you can roll into your pretty little nest.

De Wever Lodge, Otterlo

De Wever Lodge, Otterlo

In the heart of the Veluwe, half hidden between the trees and surrounded by one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the Netherlands, is the Weaver Lodge. A beautiful hotel, small and nice with its own bistro. The Veluwe is actually special enough in itself, but De Wever Lodge goes one step further. Everything here revolves around the love of nature (you are really in the middle of it) and it is craftsmanship and quality that count. It seems a bit as if time has stood still: press pause and only do what you want. And and and: Wever Lodge now also has two absolutely beautiful cottages: Cottage Geluk and Cottage Auping. Nice for yourself and your little one, a private terrace with a view of all nature and a Weltevree stove to sit by the fire until late at night.
