The nicest hotels in your own country – this is where your nest is spread
Yeah, you know what it is... The Netherlands is just really, really nice. For everything, but also for a short getaway. Quality time. Me time. You know it. A romantic getaway with your partner is always a good idea, but in a beautiful room it's also a good idea to catch up with that friend you don't speak to enough, with your dad who also wants to go out sometimes or just alone, because hey: you want to also something.
That's why this list. Golden oldies, well-known and lesser-known places, new hotspots, but all incredibly beautiful and wonderfully romantic.
On a mini vacation with your four-legged friend then here are a few more tips and here is a list of (in our opinion) some of the ones not to be missed boutique hotels in the Netherlands.
Finch Boutique Hotel is an attractive mix of history and that twenty-first-century luxury. Top-notch. Exactly what the owners had in mind. And that in the heart of always delightful Deventer. Surrounded by the coolest boutiques, hotspots and hidden gems of the Hanseatic city, everything within a few minutes' walk of the hotel. Although you might not want to leave the room after checking in; a record player in every room (yes, really), a rain shower, a Nespresso machine, a Chromecast, and so on. The dream was a hotel that offers just (or much) more than most hotels do. Nothing at all middle of the road practices. Finch is classy and chic on the outside and, although we hate the word, trendy on the inside. Without becoming too hip, if you know what we mean. Oh, and breakfast and a cocktail on arrival are simply included, by the way. And even though the hotel is perfectly suited for two, yapping dogs and kids are more than welcome too. Who knows, maybe for next time.
We can sometimes be a bit old-fashioned... So if we go out with our loved one, just for a moment, just the two of us, then we really can't resist visiting a number of castles in the Netherlands. to lurk.
(These houses are certainly not romantic, where you can easily stay with 20 people. It is nice: large holiday homes in the Netherlands).
We hardly know where to start cheering. So at the beginning: who it is Zeeland Cadzand-Bad When you enter, you cannot help but agree that it is a seaside resort that cannot be compared to any other, thanks to a number of stately buildings with an exterior with woodwork that is normally reserved for Scandinavian countries. And that is surrounded by nature: green on the left, the sea on the right. Ah. Holiday.
A holiday from the books, that is: on the one hand, nothing at all. Feet in the sand, get a breath of fresh air, sunbathe, wander around the dunes and enjoy an ice cream. On the other hand, dress yourself (and/or your loved one) up in an old-fashioned way for dinner: put on a dress or Sunday suit, wear heels, polish your shoes, put on a jacket... Go. Enjoy yourself take care of and then rolling upstairs into your wonderful bed. Two in one, that is also the case Beach hotel Cadzand-Bad.
An old KLM office that now feels like a mix between a hotel and an art gallery. Hotel De Plesman The Hague is a place with a story. Here you'll sleep among designer furniture, high ceilings, and art that honors the past. Think: warm colors, wall art by artists like Soo Burnell and Casper Faassen, and a tranquil atmosphere that instantly draws you in.
You can stay for a short period of time, but also for weeks. There are also stylish apartments (The Residences) for those who are in the city for a longer period. And then that location: right between the center and the beach. You can choose every morning: do you go for coffee shops and shops or sand between your toes?
We cannot (and do not want) to ignore it: boutique hotel Parc Broekhuizen is beautiful and beautiful. Inside and out. Located in the second largest forest area in the Netherlands and therefore a privileged location in the middle of nature. There are twenty-two suites and rooms spread across the estate.
Promise us one thing. During your stay we strongly recommend that you stay for dinner Bistro LOF. This is not just any Bistro. The old, monumental farm next to the orangery was turned into an extremely beautiful place. A mix between history and now. Looking for more luxury, then restaurant Voltaire strip card you can also book a good to goIn 2018, they received their first Michelin star here, so it is a delightful place to sit and dine. Chefs Falco Lens and Ivanildo Kamperveen run the show here. The chefs and their team are responsible for the Menu Voltaire, a five- or seven-course menu using only the best seasonal ingredients. Fresh notes, light acidity, refined spices: you will find it at Voltaire.
Hotel Arsenal Delft with a wild history, for which fortunately you don't have to read the books, but actually just go. It was built in the 17e century, as a former warehouse for weapons, spices and other commodities. Now turned into a tip top corporate shop style hotel right in the heart of the city Delft – the (student) city known for its history, bustle and conviviality. The hotel is only five minutes from the train station and a ten-minute walk from the Vermeer Center Delft, ideal. It's time to stroll here. At Hotel Arsenaal you can sleep all day long in your king-size bed, splash under the rain shower, bubble in your bath, or have an extensive drink in the Gastrobar or on the terrace. Last nightcap? That's perfect here, the Gastrobar is the right place for great gin & tonics. Where herbs and spices used to be stored here for trade, you can now find them in your cocktail. Bring your drink, sit down in front of the robust fireplace, order some snacks and have a drink, you won't want to leave here.
Time to relax, but who, what, where? Are you going to the spa to wellnessOr book a night in a luxurious five-star hotel? One plus one equals two. Wellness Hotel Thermen Berendonck is not just one wellness paradise, but also a delightful hotel full of oriental charm and a fairytale interior. Here, you're truly transported to another world, surrounded by influences from India and Morocco, among others. You'll feel like you're in a fairytale from the Arabian Nights.
Pulitzer, one of the favorite hotels in Amsterdam. That is not without reason: the location is great, the hospitality is on and the formal and casual looks are enviable. Load up the whole lot and go home. The restaurants (there are two) are good and the bar is one of those where you want to sit down every weekend, sipping your cocktail. Well, do you get the point? Pulitzer fans gather!
What makes it all extra special is that the hotel consists of a collection of no fewer than 25 canal houses, all connected to each other. Corridor here, around the corner and through to the next room. Enjoy strolling around and feast your eyes on all the beautiful things. Nothing exaggerated or too fancy. No Pulitzer = Pulitzer. Dutch down-to-earth atmospheres in combination with modern and simply ridiculously beautiful.
Do you want more? We get it, read it here.
Rococco Plantation It is magical! And absolutely nothing less than that. Really. Located on the Waterland estate, which is just a fifteen-minute drive from Amsterdam. Although you really wouldn't say so: the spot is unique. The boundless love for history and authenticity seeps through the walls, and you can feel and see that love. Plantage Rococo was conceived to impress, just as was the intention in the sixteenth century. And it succeeded. Want to escape for a while? Then plan a mini-vacation for two (or more, kids are welcome) at Plantage Rococo.
Quirky places are precisely those places that we would love and look for. Well, another one has been found. Boutique Hotel Beekhuizen, in a beautiful location in the Veluwezoom National Park, is small and cozy, wonderfully quirky and jaw dropping attractive. The hotel is just the right size, the rooms are spacious and light and you also have plenty of space outside. For yourself, your family or the other person lucky one who can come along. In the Veluwezoom National Park, and therefore absolutely great. Peace, nature, hours of walking pleasure, cycling routes, riding trails - think of something in the green and you will find it at Hotel Beekhuizen (and also wild boars, badgers, deer and deer!).
If you are in the area, take a look Flora Batava, a national monument in the middle of greenery and on the water. Flora Batava in Nieuwersluis has a lot, is close to all kinds of fun things and is itself a beautiful place where everyone will find something to their liking. Drink tea on the country estate, wake up quietly with a view of the Vecht or have a nice drink at the Tea House. The first pineapple was once soaked at Flora Batava, you now know that.
In the beautiful conservatory of the in-house restaurant Bloei you sit under dark gray steel beams, between exotic plants, with your nose almost in the Vecht and surrounded by the green splendor of the Flora Batava garden and country estate. The food is delicious (and regional!) and presented as a small work of art. The rooms are subdued chic, with calm colors, velvet details (you want those olive green seats at home too) and a beautiful wooden floor that alternates with large deep gray carpets in those places where it counts (by your bed for example - no cold feet in the morning).
Châteauhotel De Havixhorst in Schiphorst, Drenthe is a pearl hidden among the greenery. From spending entire evenings in their beautiful garden to preparing a cheese board in the old wine cellar: here you can experience the French château atmosphere without crossing national borders. But fear not, because De Havixhorst is more than just one pretty face: put on your walking shoes for a trip through the Reestdal, spot dolmens or pedal through the Staphorsterbos. Oh, and don't forget your four-legged friend! This is more than welcome.
Yes, we find a hotel the epitome of romantic, because you get pampered and don't have to think about a thing. But what can also create truly romantic situations is your own place where you—who cares?—can prance around in your lingerie all day long. The best places for this are, of course, the popular Tiny Houses. The Netherlands now has quite a few of them, and we have listed the nicest/most attractive ones for you: the nicest Tiny Houses in the Netherlands.
Warm and modern are the two most important words you think of when you describe the Cityhotel Wood in Middelburg. Lots of wood, warm blankets and beautiful furnishings. And to start with one of the highlights: in the hotel restaurant, The GreenroomVegetables play the leading role, but for the enthusiast there is also a piece of meat or fish. As many unprocessed, pure products as possible here and yes, that is very tasty. Raw and fresh, these are the starting points of The Green Room restaurant. Everything homemade and where possible organic. Long story short: very contemporary, very tasty.
City center Middelburg it is. Exactly, a central location. This way you can easily explore Middelburg. Extra nice: the hotel has bicycles in front of the door that you can rent, but it is also fun to cycle through Middelburg.
For Little Escapes we already stayed at Boutique hotel De Witte Dame in Abcoude (you can read everything about that more than wonderful hotel in one of the most beautiful villages in the country, close to Amsterdam, here: The White Lady), and that was a real pleasure. But… Even before that hotel, there was an estate Villa Oldenhoff, just outside Abcoude and owned by the same people. Ha! Boutique Hotel Villa Oldenhoff is situated in a beautiful location in the middle of the polder. The polder connects the villages of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel and picturesque Abcoude, less than 10 kilometers from Amsterdam. And it is not just the location that is great. The rooms are a delight too, the sauna is totally relaxing, and you can rent a boat right outside the door.
Abcoude, but would you rather not go to this place? Also check The White Lady It's just around the corner.
There is small-scale and there is small-scale. Well, here you are all with you you, yourself And whoever you bring along, you won't run into any other guests: there is only one room in the Water Tower. It doesn't get much more romantic than this. Nothing less than a 360-degree view. Over the dunes, over the trees, and if you're lucky and the weather cooperates, you can see as far as Amsterdam. Don't forget to wave! And it wouldn't really be a real trip if you didn't wake up to a lavish breakfast. That's taken care of too, by the people at the nearby DOK. You are welcome to stay upstairs and eat your breakfast in your room (can you picture yourself there: breakfast on your king-size bed, with a view from here to Tokyo?), but should you prefer to start the day with both feet on the ground, you are also very welcome at DOK itself.
Boutique hotel KeershuysRight in the bustling center of the Brabant capital. It is stylish and elegant. Various room types, but all tastefully decorated. The building is a national monument, and you can feel it. The right mix of authentic and modern—that’s what you want! And Den Bosch is not only incredibly charming but, thanks to the many small streets and the centuries-old city center, also more than romantic. Oh yes, at Boutique Hotel 't you sleep on Auping beds, and we at Barts Boekje happen to be huge fans of those.
In the heart of the Veluwe, half-hidden among the trees and surrounded by one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the Netherlands, stands the Wever Lodge. A magnificent hotel, small and charming, complete with its own bistro. The Veluwe itself is actually special enough, but De Wever Lodge takes it a step further. Everything here revolves around a love for nature (you are truly right in the middle of it), and craftsmanship and quality are the order of the day. It feels a bit as if time has stood still: the hustle and bustle on pause, and just doing what you want.
Uber luxe, that's the idea, decorated by Dutch pride Piet Boon - and yes, he knows what chic is and especially: how chic should look. Lots of marble, lots of (reasonable) sad beige, An incredible amount of art (yes!) spread across 134 rooms, five of which are sort of complete homes (the term 'suites' really doesn't do it justice). Will we be booking a night there anytime soon? Nah. But we would definitely recommend it to people with a slightly larger budget than ours.
Hooking up in Advocatuur, the hotel bar that pays homage to the legal heritage of the building, is something we do! And the Asaya Spa at Rosewood Amsterdam is also on the wishlist. Eastern healing traditions combined with modern therapies here, in another beautiful and serene spa.
