Frisk has recently moved into the old Droste chocolate factory on the Spaarne in Haarlem. Or rather: Frisk aan het Spaarne. Frisk is not exactly in the center of Haarlem, that's true. It's a bit of a walk, we admit, and if you're wondering whether you're really really really in the right place, the answer is yes: Frisk is indeed hidden in a residential area.

Once you arrive, you walk through the cozy terrace (with fairy lights, trendy chairs and a basket for the dog - kudos to Frisk, and we're not even inside yet) into the shop. Or actually: Semi-into the shop because there is a good outside-inside transition, the conservatory. Perfect for the Dutch summers when you want to sit outside, but that is not really relaxing. Once you are really inside, everything is very large and spacious and colorful. Think mint, pink and green tones. There are quite a few cozy corners where you can sink your ass into a lazy chair, there are plenty of tables for two and there is a large table to open your laptop to get some work done.

Then the food, not unimportant. The food at Frisk is inspired by the well-known and widely acclaimed Nordic Kitchen: simple, pure, healthy, authentic, green and seasonal. The portions at Frisk are also not bad and the sandwiches are anything but lousy sandwiches: loaded with goodness are the sturdy slices of bread. Also the coffee and a glass of fresh juice (really fresh, not fake, they are prepared at the moment of request) are given love and attention.

Of course you can also go to Frisk for a genuine Fika, 'a moment', a moment for yourself, which in this case (and more often) translates into coffee with something tasty. Great. We have not yet spent an evening at Frisk, but the daytime experience suggests that it is also fine in the evening. Frisk aan het Spaarne
