Damn, it looks like a Goois book here these days! We call it a farm-fresh Life Insurance establishment, we are talking about Hotel Gooiland,and we haven't even had the best (sort of speaking) horse in the stable: Meddens is the name and Meddens is the youngest and most attractive of 't Gooi.

Meddens, with that in mind, was particularly cleverly designed: incredibly beautiful and completely contemporary in all its pink tones on one floor, rust orange and deep green on the other, blue and copper on number three, wire chairs decorate the corners, bird wallpaper behind them. A gigantic bar, an attractive 'fish auction' and a stairwell over five floors (!) to write home about... Beautiful, beautiful. Meddens occupies three of those floors in a building that was previously a department store. Grand and a touch of industrial. Add to that the aforementioned design, done by the people of the Horecafabriek (MaMa Kelly, among others)… Beautiful girlfriend who doesn't drive around the block for it.

But… Something new in Hilversum again? Yes. Because, according to the owner of Meddens: “eA village with one pub does not attract chickens from outside.” He has a good point, and Meddens is the icing on the new openings cake, as it turns out. Incidentatlly Hilversum is not that far away, we learned, and the Gooi is beautiful (be sure to take a tour of the heath!). We digress: Meddens.

The restaurant is one of the better in its own category. Category accessible fish brasserie that is. Expect genuinely good food in that brasserie style, with all the goodness from the sea. Oysters, a combination of salmon tartare, tuna tartare, crispy avocado and a poached egg (fav.), surf and turf of course, for the big appetite, lobster bisque (also fav) and saffron risotto with sea bass. Not to mention the desserts in 1000 and 1 ways. And although the operation is still slightly chaotic at times, he inperhaps strangely, they are extremely enthusiastic, no, proud of their Meddens. And that's a bonus. They are also friendly, so oh well, then a forgotten sandwich with spread is easily forgotten.

 

Three floors and a large terrace, in the heart of Hilversum. You just have to fill it up, of course. The people of Meddens understand that too and that is why the club is already organizing its first great party, so shortly after the opening: Vissa. Indeed, a fishing party that returns every month. And every last Friday of the month, just write: Oysters for €1, full G&Ts to wash down the fish on offer and a nice one DJ because it's Friday after all.
