Toscanini – Amsterdam's most acclaimed Italian
Anyone looking for a last-minute trip to Toscanini (Amsterdam) is generally out of luck. The interior and atmosphere are also pretty good (though those are also fine): Toscanini is considered by many to be the best Italian restaurant in the city, if not the best. A lot of people say the same. So, reservations are definitely a must, especially on weekends.
We regularly join for lunch – which sometimes slips unnoticed into dinner. After dessert (sharing is recommended, and the panna cotta is irresistible), you can always order the appetizer again at Toscanini. The mozzarella with various seasonal vegetables is a standard order, and the lightly caramelized eggplant is not to be shared. The menu changes regularly, and a delicious daily special always beckons on the chalkboard. If you're lucky, Tzvika is working, and if Tzvika is at your table, it's party time.
The wine also deserves a special mention. The sommelier does an excellent job, striking the perfect balance between renowned names like Guido Porro and smaller Italian wineries. If you're going for a white, try the Spoletino.
The Toscanini empire continues to grow. In addition to the restaurant, there is also Toscanini Deli, and chef Leonardo Pacenti is in charge Leonardo's Ravioli Bar in the Pijp. Can't get a table? No worries: with the Toscanini cookbook get your portion of Toscanini delivered to your home.
